Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet EZ in Auburn, CA
EZ is a beautiful, sweet & gentle, mostly well-mannered 1y/o Australian Shepherd. He is neutered and UTD on vaccines, Heartworm neg and on HW/flea & tic preventatives.
We call him EZ because he is easy on the leash, rides well in the car, and enjoys being groomed. Not to mention he is EZ on the eyes. EZ is house & crate trained & sleeps through the night. EZ is great with other dogs, he is cat and chicken curious, but has not bothered either while at his foster family’s home.
EZ was found as a stray in Northern California. He was under weight and dirty but was otherwise in good health. As wonderful as EZ is, his owner did not claim him from the shelter, so he came to us at ASF. We think EZ was hard to catch but once he was safely at the shelter, the shelter staff fell in love with him. They called him Shadow because he followed closely while leashed.
EZ has a couple of things about him that will require a special person. EZ is deaf. He is also nervous of new people and sudden movements and sometimes startles when woken up. For this reason, young children are not recommended. It takes time to earn EZ’s trust so he will need patient trainers and a calm household. EZ does well with the other dogs and looks to them for cues so another friendly dog in the household might be good for him.
EZ is young and curious. He will chase deer or other animals if not securely contained. And, because EZ is deaf and nervous of strangers, it will be hard to get him back to safety should he get loose. EZ will need a VERY securely fenced yard.
EZ’s Foster mom suggests a home environment where he can get the activity he needs while supervised and can be inside the home when not supervised. She also encourages EZ’s new owner to purchase a tracking collar like the Fi-3 collar.
EZ still needs training. He especially needs recall training which is special with deaf dogs. He will also need hand signal training for basic commands. EZ currently responds to hand signals for ‘sit’ and ‘down’ and is learning ‘Stay/wait’ which will be the most important command so that he can be approached and leashed. Foster mom has a special way to get EZ to come to her (she will show you) and once EZ is leashed, he is as happy as can be. He follows closely and does not pull.
If you think you are a good fit for EZ, please fill out an application at https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption...
There is an additional $20 mirochip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new family.
