My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Hi … my name is Sebastian and here are some things you need to know about me:

All dogs are special ... some of God's finest creations, and then there are those who need very special heroes to help them live their best lives. Can you be Sebastian's hero?

Sweet Sebastian … what a little mystery he is.  Per the previous owner, his mom is a Boston Terrier and dad is a Chihuahua … which explains the gorgeous brindle coat, the underbite, the big ears and the goofy personality.

He is such a puzzle because once he trusts you, you see a different pup, but until he decides to let you into his world, he is afraid of everything and he tries to hide. He is very cautious of human touch and does not want anyone to pick him up.  He will jump into your lap when he is ready, but he still does not want even his best human friend to pick him up.  And if pushed too quickly, he will warn with a low growl.  He seems to be partial to women, although he does fine with his foster dad.  We are trying to untangle all the pieces of his puzzle to make his world a happier place.

Sebastian needs a special home with a patient family!  He will do best with a family with doggy experience … definitely not a good choice for a first pet.  This little boy is truly a diamond-in-the-ruff.  A big investment of time and patience in him will be sure to reap great rewards.

If you do not feel like you can adopt and meet his special needs, you can still help him by sponsoring his extended care with tax-deductible donations.  A one-time donation, or monthly or quarterly donations designated for Sebastian's care will be appreciated.

If you think Sebastian might be the perfect pup for you, please go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete your adoption application online.

Personality:  very cautious, timid, slow to warm up, but sweet and loving once he does, a bit cautious of human touch until he knows he can trust

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if Sebastian picks you too.

If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.

Please feel free to email weluvpups@hotmail.com if you have additional questions.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process:
Step 1: Complete the appropriate Adoption Application. There are different applications for dogs and cats. You will find the form online http://www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms/ Then click on 'Fill Out' and you will be taken directly to the form. Once submitted, it comes directly to us. You should get a message immediately if your application has been successfully submitted
Step 2: Members of the Adoption Committee thoroughly review completed applications and do reference checks. Please remember that adopting a pet is making a commitment of 10-15 years, so we do not take any shortcuts in processing applications. It is our responsibility to place these pets in the very best homes we can possibly find for them. Application processing can usually be done in 7-14 days. Sometimes it may take longer if we have a problem reaching your references or finding another rescue to do a home visit for out-of-town or out-of-state adoptions.
Step 3: After reference checks are completed and your Adoption Application is tentatively approved, we will schedule a home visit and a time for you to meet the pet that just might be the newest member of your family. We will ask that all family members be present for the meet-and-greet ... including all other family pets.

Please be aware that we generally limit adoptions to families within 75 miles of our location in Huddleston, VA. There may be exceptions made, but application processing for remote adoptions usually takes longer because we must find another rescue to help us by conducting a home visit. This is required.

**Please remember that we are an all-volunteer, home-based rescue organization. We do not have a public shelter facility, so all home visits/meet-and-greets for potential adopters and fosters are done after applications are approved and by appointment only. Most of our volunteers work full-time jobs, so the majority of our home visits are scheduled for Saturdays between 10 am and 2 pm and Sundays between 1 pm and 3 pm. You can also meet adoptables at our public events noted on our website. Of course, we will always try to be as flexible as possible when scheduling meet-and-greets.
Step 4: After the home visit, if everything seems to be a perfect match, the final step is the signing of the Adoption Contract, payment of the adoption donation, and welcoming your new family member home.

Please note that completing the online application does not obligate you to adopt a pet, nor does it guarantee that your application will be approved. AAMR reserves the right to decline any application without providing a reason. Please understand, also, that often there are multiple applications for one pet and it is the responsibility of the Committee to find the best fit for each pet.

Go meet their pets

We are an all volunteer, home-based rescue organization. We do not have a public shelter facility, so you can meet our pups at our public events, such as at the Lynchburg VA Petco. Please check our Calendar of Events regularly for other opportunities to meet our pups. Otherwise, we have volunteers bring pups for a home visit after an application has been approved.

More about this rescue

Our motto is "Rescue … rehome … real love” and we try to live it every day. We rescue animals in need of new homes and loving families. We make sure each of them is spayed or neutered and up-to-date on all routine vaccinations. If other medical care or treatment is needed, we get that for them as well.

We welcome these fosters into our homes and our lives and really get to know their personalities and their needs. Then we make it our mission to re-home them - to place them in the forever home that will be perfect for them. Some of them really need to have another dog companion, while others will do well being an 'only pet.' Some love having children to play with, while others prefer being with adult companions. Some do well sharing a home with cats or other small pets, while others .... well ... no so much. And the only way we know this is by living with them!

We also work to educate and encourage other pet owners to spay or neuter their animals to

a) help their pets lead longer, healthier lives, and
b) help reduce the numbers of homeless and unwanted animals in our Central Virgina communities.

It is such an easy thing to do! Not only will it benefit your pet and your family, but it will reduce the numbers of wonderful, adoptable animals that are euthanized every year. Please be part of the solution.
