My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Starting with his underbite, adding his goofy morning happy dance, and finally seeing how he sleeps with his tongue out, this 3.5-year-old, 73 pound hunky guy will keep you laughing all day. He loves to hang with and 'help' you as you go about your day. Gleason is looking for an experienced human who can maintain proper structure and boundaries in the home. He's an incredibly good boy when he respects his humans, but if he senses a lack of control, he will push his boundaries. He does well with other dogs as long as he gets a slow, proper introduction. Overall, Gleason is calm and easy-going, totally content to snooze when you are busy, will happily jump in the car, and walks well on leash. Are you giddy for Gleason? Additional adoption info

All of our animals come fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered (if old enough), and microchipped. Puppies and kittens will be spayed/neutered and have all shots when they are old enough. There is an Adoption application, a quick phone interview to make sure it is a good fit, a meet and greet with the dog, then a home check, and an adoption contract. We ask for a $400 donation for adult dogs, and $500 for puppies at the time of adoption so that we can save other dogs from the shelter. The first step is to fill out an app here: https://thelittlereddog.org/adoption-form

More about this rescue

Dogs are man's best friend, but it is not always the other way around. The Little Red Dog was founded in memory of a little red American Pit Bull Terrier who did not make it. If you are familiar with the Michael Vick dog fighting case chronicled in The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. The Little Red Dog was brutally beaten to death by Vick and his cronies because she didn't want to fight.

The Little Red Dog rescues dogs; red, blue, tan, white, brown, black and all colors in between. We do not discriminate against ANY breed; that's because we are a real rescue, and we will help as many animals as we can. Our primary goal is to get them into loving homes. Our hope that some day all of them make it, but most of all, we will never forget the Little Red Dog and many others who did not.
