My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi. I’m Finn!  I'm a happy, friendly boy and LOVE LOVE LOVE to meet new people. Sometimes I can't help it and want to say hi to everyone that passes by. I like other dogs, too, and enjoy a good game of "chase and be chased". I like it so much that some dogs think my greeting can be a little over the top but most want to play like me but I will chill if told to. I love walks and like to sniff everything. I'm great on leash as long as you use my front clip harness.  I don't pull with the front clip and it's easy to put on. I’m working hard on training and feel I have mastered sit, down, stay, shake and off. I am really a perfect walking buddy. But I love my walks and love to go out with my people.

Even though I love other dogs, sometimes I need to be reminded to share. However, if it’s a tug-of-war rope then GAME ON. I’ll play tug all day long!  If you have a swimming spot nearby, I'm in, literally. I ride nicely in the car and jump right in. I'm ready to roll. Even though l like other dogs, I really would be happy with my very own person.

My foster family takes me to German Shepherd meetups and I’ve done great!  Like I said, I'm a friendly boy just waiting for that perfect family that wants to have fun and go places. Don't get me wrong, I can be a chill, snuggle buddy too and love to cuddle my foster dad in the mornings. I am  happy to liet at your side while you work or if youre just reading a book.  If you are looking for a great out-and-about boy, and have lots of energy and time to spend with me, come see me and we can be friendls. I really would like my own family soon. It's been a while and I am a super good boy. I have been told that I am mnore handsome in person. I am not reactive to dogs and I would love my own family, hopefully with a dog. I love to play.

I'll be waiting with my foster family in Mountain View.

Additional adoption info

We are all working toward finding that perfect match!

You want to find that great dog that you and your family will love for many years. We want to find that great family that will offer our dog the very best home.

Our process is about getting to know you, your lifestyle as it applies to a dog, your experience with the breed, training, etc. All of the information we gather is simply to make sure we make a perfect match!

Go meet their pets

We don't have a lot of events or meet-and-greets. We may do a few a year however we want our meetings to be as calm and natural as possible. We have found that large events are extremely overstimulating and distracting for most dogs and not the best place to meet. We prefer to meet in environments that allow more one-on-one, direct interaction so you get a feel of how the dog will respond you and your family.

More about this rescue

We love German Shepherd Dogs for all the same reasons you are looking here today. They are loyal, intelligent and beautiful animals. They can be big goofballs, feisty spitfires, working dogs, sport enthusiasts, movie critics, couch warmers, dock divers, scent detectors, hiking buddies, travelers, family protectors......you name it, the GSD can do it. If you are lucky enough to have a GSD in your life you will understand just how special they are.

We are a 501(c)(3) 100% volunteer organization. We began our mission in 2013 with the dream of saving as many of these beautiful and often misunderstood dogs as we could. We are a small rescue but we have a mighty team and we have saved over 2,000 dogs!

Most of our dogs come from shelters local to our rescue. There are many reasons dogs end up in shelters and we find most of them are not the fault of the dog. Are there purebred GSDs in shelters? ABSOLUTELY. Are there good dogs in shelters? There are GREAT dogs in shelters. Some of our dogs come from owners who, for many reasons, can no longer care for them and ask our help in finding a new loving forever home. The good news is that we encounter few dogs that have been abused or seriously mistreated.

Each dog that comes into our program is carefully evaluated and then placed into a foster home when available. Foster homes are critical for our rescue and it's the best way to really get to know the dog. If we don't have an appropriate foster home available, we will temporarily use one of our approved boarding/daycare facilities while getting to know the dog and waiting for a foster home to become available. We do not warehouse our dogs! Every dog in our care gets one-on-one attention from our volunteers/fosters. They are socialized, vetted, allowed to decompress and show us who they really are. Once we have spent some time getting to know each dog, we make the dog available for adoption.

If you aren't ready to adopt but still want to help, please consider fostering a GSD. We have all types of GSD's, from older 'fireside' dogs to younger puppies full of puppy energy. Fosters are truly the backbone of a rescue and without fosters, we would not be able to save these wonderful dogs. The rescue pays for all costs and will provide everything needed. All you need to provide is a safe, loving environment. Our dogs are in a foster home anywhere from a week to several months and we provide relief fosters if you have an emergency or need to be away from home for a few days. If you have ever thought about fostering, now is the time as there are record -breaking (and heartbreaking) numbers of dogs in shelters that need a second chance. Please consider becoming a foster home.

As a non-profit rescue, we are extremely grateful to our donors. Without YOU there would be no US. All donations are tax deductible and used for vetting, food, training, etc. We have no paid staff. The majority of our costs are medical as each dog receives required vaccinations, age and health appropriate spay/neuter, flea/tick treatment, heartworm testing and monthly treatment, worming and microchip. We often take dogs that need additional medical treatment and we also get dogs that have unknown issues that need to be treated. Your donations help us help those that need us most. A leg will heal and a heart will heal and our donors make it all possible.

And of course, we always need volunteers to help us transport, groom, walk, play with, train and on the "non" contact side, adoption counselors, fundraising, grant writing, social media....you name it we most likely need it. Even an hour a week makes a difference and we're with you every step of the way.

Our motto has always been "IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DOGS" and we live by it. Our dogs have always been and will always be our #1 priority.

Thanks for checking us out and thank you for your support!!
