My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Bridger
Age: 1
House Trained: Yes
Weight: 36 lbs
Crate Trained: Mostly, but still working (great at night, more upset during daylight hours)

Foster Location: Valdosta, GA - A meet and greet is required.

Up to date on shots, microchipped and neutered, and on heartworm/flea/tick prevention.

Bridger is a VERY handsome dog that wants to be someone’s shadow and is looking for that best friend bond. Due to this, he would thrive as an only dog or with a very playful dog that is more on the independent side he wouldn’t have to share your lap with. Bridger loves dogs, but doesn’t pick up on social cues well- which is why the other dog in the house must be matching energy play wise. Bridger needs an active family that is willing to walk or run with him daily, exercise him in the backyard and mentally stimulate him with training. It takes him a few weeks to really settle in, but once he does you’ll have a bonded friend for life. Bridger needs his own fenced in yard and someone that is looking to give him the forever home he is so desperately looking for. Bridger also needs a family that is home more often than not and won’t leave him too many hours of the day due to how much he thrives with human attention.

Bridger is very smart. He knows sit, down, shake and touch. We’re working on stay, but since he doesn’t want to be far from you it’s a bit difficult. He’s used to walks but is still working on pulling and like any dog, he will get distracted if a bird or squirrel is on the path. He is doing great with the spray bottle used as “no”.

Bridger loves toys, tug of war, the water and chewing antlers. He loves being as close as possible (on your shoulder, in your lap, etc) and gives lots of kisses. He would thrive at agility, dock diving or any other sport he gets to work with you at. He loves to play ball inside, but isn’t as interested outside. We’re learning Frisbee outside. He thinks everything is a tug of war game so you have to tell him to sit and give him a treat when he gets back with it and he’ll drop it. He can jump HIGH! He also loves the car, but you’ll have to fight him out of the passenger seat.

Bridger sleeps in his crate every night, but prefers to be in the company of his humans as soon as the sun comes up so he usually hops in bed with us around 5AM. He will more than likely cry if you leave him during the day, but will settle in. He’s slowly learning the crate isn’t a negative place. We usually give him an antler or peanut butter kong while he’s in there.

The most important thing to know about Bridger is his high reactivity. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, but when he sees a dog or person on the leash he will lunge and bark. We’ve been working on sit when cars, dogs and people go by and approach slowly. Any new situation he’ll generally bark (out at restaurants, etc) and then settle in and be the best behaved boy. Same with a walk, what might have made him startle at first won’t about 30 min in. I recommend any new family continue exposing him to new things with treats in their pocket ready to train. He LOVES training!
