Ladies and Gentlemen!!
Would you kindly give a biggggg SSR welcome toooooooooo
#Darla2754 aka Darla .. Darlin' .. DarlaDarling ..
She was originally rescued from a high-kill shelter in Texas. Traveling to Virginia in February 2023, she was initially held in boarding awaiting foster. She is now settling nicely into foster environment and available for adoption.
Thus far she is everything we found, and dreamed she would be, out of boarding ..
.. adorably warm, sweet, affectionate and snuggly with her fo-hoooman and everyone else she has had the pleasure so far to meet, big and small.
.. appropriately cautious on approaching new pups but friendly once she is comfortable and establishes contact and boundaries. Anyone familiar with the Malinois is acutely aware of the Mal-swagger which she executes perfectly, almost majestically. In the home, both she and the resident Mal have established a warm mutual understanding of each other .. she can be a jot aloof and indifferent as yet, he goes with her flow :D, works like a charm .. they do play w/o issue. I do anticipate that she would not be her best around a more dominant male or female pup w/o appropriate caution being taken. She has shown no resource guarding issues whatsoever with food, treats, toys around the home. For the moment, due to her being heart worm + and having just completed her first round of treatment, I feel 'rest' is more important than 'test' so she has not been comprehensively cat-tested in the home.
.. she is extremely comfortable, calm and respectful of the home. No accidents, chewing, issues with crating. Nothing remotely of negative note inside nor out.
.. she travels peaceably in the air crate (Vari-kennel) in the car, entering and exiting w/o a problem.
.. she is not unmanageable on a leash, but there is room for improvement. She will work for food, sooo due to this, and her breeds' innate training capabilities, I do not anticipate an issue on bettering her leash manners.
Please stay tuned on Shenandoah Shepard Rescues Community Facebook page for updates on her future accomplishments and adventures.
Of note, and as previously stated, she is heartworm positive and will be treated at SSR's expense until she tests negative, even after she's adopted. She is also unaltered, spaying also covered at SSR's expense as soon as she is able.
