Nicolai is a five-year-old, 58-pound mix that was surrendered by his owner, who must have forgotten that he had a dog for the last five years when he moved to a place that didn’t allow dogs. How anyone could turn and see that face staring back from a kill shelter and still walk out the door is heartbreaking. The card the owner filled out said he was housebroken, didn’t chew, dig, or jump, was good with kids, cats, and dogs, and knew to sit and stay. Unfortunately, he has been pretty freaked out in a boarding situation and is not in the mood to mix and mingle, so he sits alone in his kennel. The one time we took him out to go to a new foster, he got so excited and worked up to be out of a cage that we had to return and get him a few minutes later. They didn’t have a fenced yard, and he needed to run around and wind down. He’s back in boarding, hoping someone will give him another chance. If you want to adopt or foster to adopt Nicolai, please click the “Adopt” button and submit an Adoption application.
FROM THE FOSTER: Nicolai is such a sweet dog. Very affectionate. He will follow me from room to room but is also content to be in the same room if you are working. He is crate trained, house trained, and is working on walking on the leash. He loves to play fetch with a tennis ball and loves his Kong toy to chew and chase. He learns things quickly, like dropping the tennis ball outside before entering. He Loves the little treats we use for training but doesn’t seem aggressive around his food. Hasn’t chewed anything. Overall, a good boy!
