Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Piper (F) is a 1 yo American Bulldog. She is currently living with her foster mom, cat sibling and a gecko in an apartment.
Piper is house and crate trained. She loves her crate and will launch into it for a treat, and is happy napping in her crate for an 8+ hour day while her foster mom works. Although she is good crated, Piper is a high energy girl and enjoys lots of exercise before and after work.
Piper enjoys her walks and walks loose leash the majority of the time, focused on her people. She also enjoys sniffing and checking out the environment. Piper can be nervous of loud noises and fast cars - her intake home was on a country property on an 80km/h road, and she would be nervous when big busses or trucks passed the driveway. Another great way to tire Piper out is through training - mental exercise is more tiring than physical exercise! Treat puzzles, training games and learning new tricks are a great way to keep Piper busy!
Piper lived with 3 dogs on her intake home, and is very friendly and playful with them - almost TOO friendly and playful! Piper has a puppy attitude and likes to put her paws on other animals, get in their face, and body check them, which not all other dogs enjoy. Piper is working on more appropriate play, and reading body language to not overwhelm calmer, more sensitive or nervous dogs. Piper did well with her shelter test with cats, and is currently learning to live with her feline foster brother!
Piper loves all people, and wants to greet new people by running up to them and jumping on them. Piper is working on a calmer, more mature greeting. While she is friendly with children, she could be too energetic and rude at this point. Applicants with young children must be aware that they will need to put in some work and teach her proper boundaries and appropriate interactions with kids.
Piper has been well behaved in the car, however she has had accidents in the car in 2 of 3 trips so far, and may be carsick. She was also working through parasites at the time, so we are unsure and will keep testing as Piper starts feeling better.
Piper is a very smart and eager to please puppy in a big adult body! She learns quickly, but her new home will need to keep in mind that she still needs to work on some puppy behaviours like jumping up, mouthing, impulse control and being calm in the house. She is a very smart girl and with boundaries, direction and proper communication, she will learn very quickly!
Here is what Piper's foster parents have to say about her:
"Piper is such a beautiful, sweet and smart girl, we can't believe she ended up in the shelter system! She is excellent in her crate and integrated into our home and routine very quickly, considering we are two adults with 3 dogs and full time jobs!
Piper is so smart and although she came with very little training, she picks up new things fast and is so eager to please.
Piper is a high energy girl and has some puppy tendencies, so she needs supervision and guidance to make good decisions. She wants to be the center of attention at all times, and still needs to learn to be patient when the humans need to focus on other things. With a bit of training and guidance, Piper will make her future furever family so happy!"
