Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Zinc and Marbles
Ready to adopt! Brother and sister lionhead bunnies are just over 2 years old. They have been spayed and neutered and have just had their RHDV booster shot for the year.
They were rescued by animal control on the day that they were born to a mom and dad bunny who had been so severely neglected that many of their siblings died due to being born into a filthy living situation that immediately caused the babies to be fighting bacteria. The poor mom had given birth to babies 4 weeks prior with dad left in the pen with her, resulting in her second litter being born while the first litter was still nursing. All the bunnies involved (which totaled 20 bunnies by the time we arrived on the scene) were in very poor condition.
All of the bunnies that lived had been placed into homes by another rescue, except these two. A year after their birth, they were still waiting for their home. Wayward Rabbits had been formed by then so we took the 2 back to find them homes, which we did. However, life changes caused the adoptive family to be forced to give them back. (Our adoption contract requires that if our bunnies are ever in need of a home, they come back to us. This is for the protection of our bunnies for their entire life as well as to give the adopters a safe way to give up their bunnies if tragedy strikes.)
Marbles, the female with darker ears, is THE BOSS of the two. Her brother, Zinc with white ears, does whatever she tells him to. Marbles is bossy and needs to be in charge. She’s had a rough life and intends to never feel unsure or unsafe again. She intends to rule her humans with an iron paw. She IS a sweet girl in there. But you will have to earn her trust, which is quite understandable based on her history. She is easy to care for since she sees the benefit of having the litter box cleaned and food and water bowls filled. She gives us no trouble when we work with her. But she is the boss, most definitely.
Zinc is the shyer of the two and isn’t allowed to have an opinion on anything. He would love more attention, but Marbles tends to be pretty possessive of him. So, if someone tries to pet him, Marbles is immediately over there shooing him away. He belongs to HER and she's not about to let anyone harm her beloved brother! He can be held on his own and cuddled. But it would be best if her new humans work to get HER approval first.
They are stunningly beautiful bunnies and would add beauty and interest to any home. Marbles will keep things interesting with her spunky attitude. Personally, I love the challenging bunnies like Marbles, because the day you see her relaxing and trusting, you know you’ve really done something good. She is willing to give humans a chance, but you can see why she might be less than trusting up front…..two years and she’s back to looking for her permanent home, for herself and the brother that she adores.
