Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Notes: 12-27-05 Frost is a 9 mo. old white short haired young cat with charcoal & peach coloring on her head and tail. She was an owner surrender to a shelter. Then the owner contacted us to ask us to get her. Ice comes with complete vet records with age appropriate vaccinations as a kitten from the owner.
Frost is litter box trained.
Frost & Ice were surrendered together.
Frost was spayed & given a Rabies vaccination today by the Warsaw Vet Clinic.
Frost will be monitored closely for 2 weeks. We will be taking inquiries in hopes we may have a home for her when she has made a return trip to the vet.
Note 12-29-05 Frost is shown here with Forrest, one of our youth volunteers currently in a 4-H program.
Update 01-10-06 Frost made her return trip to Warsaw, seeing Dr. Candy. Frost weighs 6 lbs., needs antibiotic ointment on the spay scar for the next few days. She has a couple of small warts which we will monitor.
Note: 01-11-06 Frost tested negative for feline leukemia. Yeah!!
She & Ice are being placed in a cat friendly foster home to see if that helps calm Ice with her neurotic behavior.
Update 01-13-06 Frost and Ice were placed in foster care with Bud & Velma, cat lovers. We have already checked with Velma, the cats meowed the entire way home. They were so quiet to and from the vet twice with us, yet meowed with them! Not a good first impression!
We will post updates as they become available. Velma plans to let them settle in for a couple of weeks, treat the warts on Frost & the spots on Ice, then may get a 2nd opinion from her vet.
The best vet in the world is human, may overlook something. We have assured Velma that we welcome a 2nd opinion and constructive hints.
Update 01-15-06 Update from Velma
Hi Judy,
Thought I would give it a day to let you know what is going on...Ice is getting into the fray right away...Frost is still timid and hiding...Bud is giving it his best shot tho to get her aquainted at least with him...she likes to be petted and loved on but still rather afraid...the boys are doing fine...they do a little spitting now and then but every one is running every where they go...its like a kitty race track in here...
Going to take the girls to see Doc Jones tomorrow if he will let me in right away or just as quickly as possible...Little concerned about thin Ice is...she eats, drinks, plays and goes to the bathroom normal so she is probably all right but you know how I feel ..so want to see if there is some other food that would be better for Ice...they like the canned treats and are all mewing for it as soon as I get up in the morning so can't be too much wrong...let you know what is said after I see Doc Jones....Ice is sleeping with us and Frost stays under the bed...HAHA Talk to ya soon..
Update 01-18-06 AM from Velma-
Judy,
Bud and I took the kitties to the vet yesterday. Pretty much in good health but they have a fungus which is causing the excessive licking and hair loss and bumps. They were given a shot of antibiotic, shot of anti inflammatory andon pills for 21 days. Doc used a Woods lamp on them and they showed green. Ears are dirty but no ear mites..Doc said looked like they had been doctored for that at some time and it was only debris in their ears...otherwise they have a good bill of health...Frost is still so scared and hard to catch but loves to be petted once caught...Ice is one of the guys now and she and boys play all the time...sleeps well in the bed of her choice which is ours Had to pull a stitch out of Frost but Doc said they are both healed good.
Doc said it is a fungus that could be caught by humans and wanted you to know that. Also your cat may get it and watch him...great thought to be put under a black lite and look green..but wanted to give you an update. Both cats are eating, drinking and going to the bathroom ok. So Frostie will just take time but Bud is giving it his best shot.
7 Bells Note - We are extremely grateful for this 2nd opinion by Velma and her vet. Thanks! We learn from our experiences and mistakes.
01-18-06 PM note from Velma-
....Ice is a lover and a chow hound but after the vet trip it is starting all over with Frost...we are going to cage her again for a few days so we can catch her and handle her....she can hide better than any cat I have ever seen...all doors are closed to shorten the hiding places and doggone it she can still disapppear.....weird how different the two cats are...24 hours and Ice was getting in with the boys and eating with them and after 48 hours she and butterball are running everywhere and tearing the house up.... after 6 days Frost is still spitting at the other cats...like humans they certainly have their very own personalities...
Update 01-24-06 from Velma on both Frost & Ice
Hey Judy, thought I would give you quick update on the two girls...Ice is not gaining weight like I would like but still eating good and all the other things she is supposed to do... she got sick in the night the other night and had the runs and threw up...lovely getting up at 3 in the morning to clean the mess because quite naturally she did it right beside the bed and we heard her...thank goodness she did not do it on the covers... and Frost is a pain in the backside as far as getting near her..she feels good is now running and playing with the guys and eats and drinks good...but we let her out of the cage again and now play the devil catching her to give her the medicine, so I assume we are going to cage her again until the pills are done...but she is fat and healthy..she sleeps with us now but the minute you reach to pet her she runs...go figger..more work to do on her...other than that there is no news about the girls...
Update 02-04-06 from Velma
This email brings good news about the kitty babies....Medication is over for the fungus and thanks for the added info from your other cat person....I took her advice...Frost is out of the cage and no longer hiding and will not run when you walk up to her...she likes to be petted (but not a lap kitty like the rest of them) and comes up and stands on her back legs with all the others in the morning for her share of the canned treat they get every morning.....the licking has stopped on both cats and WE HAVE BLAST OFF....ICE IS GROWING HER HAIR BACK...YEHHHHHHHHH...she is a lover and wants to set on the back of whichever chair one of us is setting in...she is now gaining weight but still looks scruffy..but I do believe finally there is light at the end of the tunnel. All four kitties get along wonderfully and Frost is actually beginning to stay with Butterball more than she is Ice...they run and play all the time...Frost has her favorite toy which is a green plastic ball with a bell in it...will actually choose it over any of the other like toys that are different colors...it is the only thing she plays with much...they all like to lay on the kitchen table and look out the window...they also like to dig up my plants. I walk into the house and have dirt all over the carpet quite often. Guess you have to take the bad with the good. The fungus meds made Ice sick which caused her to poop and puke every where. But that seems to be stopping now. Cats tend to do that when they do not feel well and she is going in the litter box again so I assume she is feeling better. Not quite up and running again yet like the others but that too will come in time.
Love ... Velma and Bud and the Fur Family
