Here's what the humans have to say about me:
*SCGPR is foster based, please check our main page for a complete list of all our adoptable pigs. We can transport any piggies (all expenses paid) to meet approved adopters anywhere in Southern California.
Piper was pulled from a county shelter after a series of bad calls and three pregnancies that could have all been prevented. She was adopted out by the shelter (pregnant) on Feb. 12th and then returned to the shelter two days later on Valentines day. Piper came into our rescue on March 2nd 2023 and gave birth to two healthy babies on March 9th. We were able to keep her with her female baby and these two wonderful piggies are available as a bonded pair.
Piper and Nibbles were adopted out by our rescue to an approved adopter that went through our process in September of 2023. In January 2024 we received a message from their adopter that they were moving and their new apartment doesn't accept pets (most apartments don't accept pets and we have this on our application that you have to be prepared to search longer and possibly pay more to find a pet friendly rental) we took them back immediately and were horrified to see that both girls were starving, skin and bones, nails hadn't been trimmed in four months, and filthy supplies that had to be thrown away. Piper had thinning fur which is also a sign they weren't getting enough vitamin C. Both girls are also terrified of noise, including music even when played at a low volume.
They've been back with us nearly a month now (Feb 2024 currently) and Piper has gained almost 100 grams and Nibbles about 90 grams. We are so happy both girls are back with us and are going to make sure their next home is a perfect fit.
Piper and Nibbles are adorable, silly, spirited ladies that will make wonderful furry family members. They will need a home that is going to be able to prioritize feeding them the right foods (pellets for guinea pigs, not rabbits) orchard and timothy hay, vitamin C cookies and when they don't eat the the cookies, liquid Vit.C as well as low calcium veggies every day. They are "litter trained" which means they naturally use their hay as a litter box. They go through more hay as a result and I refresh their entire hay box every day, dumping and adding 100% new. This keeps their cage pretty neat but you will go through more hay.
As I mentioned above they get really stressed with noise, their old home had a 6 month old so the constant infant noise we're sure contributed to the weight loss. They will need an adults only or older children who can recognize when they are stressed/terrified and adjust accordingly for them.
They will also need someone who will weigh them weekly to make sure they are not losing weight. Adopters with previous guinea pig experience would be ideal.
We know this is a tall order but we're hopeful the perfect fit is out there for these wonderful girlies. We are happy to go over all this and more and provide all the support we can because these two have been through a lot and they deserve a great life.
