Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
** Max is available for foster or adoption! We`d love to get him out of the busy shelter and into a home environment. Email applications@chicagocaninerescue.org to set up a meet + greet! **
At CCR, Max is like the beloved Chicago Hot Dog at Portillo’s—an all-time favorite that never goes out of style! This 8-year-old shepherd mix might have a few more miles on his paws, but he’s still brimming with energy and excitement, ready to mix playtime with cozy naps like a pro.
Max is a true embodiment of a loyal companion. Whether he’s bouncing around with his favorite toys or enjoying leisurely strolls with his pals, his spirit is as lively as ever. This handsome fellow is a treasure chest of affection just waiting for someone to discover his heart of gold.
Max’s zest for life shines through in everything he does. From savoring the simple joys of a car ride with the wind in his fur to snuggling up with a plush toy or bone at home, he finds happiness in the little things.
Despite facing a few bumps in the road, including a return to CCR in 2023 after being adopted in 2016, Max remains as hopeful and resilient as ever. He’s ready to give and receive all the love and happiness a forever home can offer.
If you’re looking for a timeless classic who will bring endless joy, playful energy, and gentle affection into your life, Max is your guy. Come meet him and see how this charming shepherd mix can make every day a little brighter!

More about this shelter
CCRF was founded in 2001 to help find permanent, loving homes for homeless dogs in our city. In just over seven years, CCRF has saved the lives of over 2,000 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies.
CCRF now assists the animals that are the MOST vulnerable in Midwest - the dogs and cats that are slated for euthanasia because they are too old, too young, injured, have disabilities, or have simply been overlooked for too long by potential adopters at other shelters.
