My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Don't overlook this dark haired beauty. She is very intelligent and loyal.

Greetings humans! People call me Miss Wynona, Nona, or Nonsies. I’m looking for a lifetime adventure buddy. Throughout my 2.5 years of life, I’ve been road tripping with my current owner as we scaled different mountains and camped in the forests. I really like to find cool skulls and bones and play with bugs. I’m definitely looking for a new companion that has a backyard for me to run around in and sunbathe. I also need someone who is an assertive benevolent leader who will correct me and give me a sense of safety.

One of my favorite pastimes is just being around my owner… wherever they are is where I love to be. I am very loyal and will do anything for those I care about. I’m really into cuddles and will spoon you all night long. If you are having a bad day, I will lick the tears off your face. I’d really really like to play tug a war with you.

For my first four months of life, I grew up on a farm in south San Antonio with a lot of other animals. Because of this slower and remote lifestyle, I’m needing a bit support and guidance on finding a better reaction to city things like skateboards, bikes, rollerblades, etc. They scare me quite a bit.

I’ve had 1.5 years of professional dog training so I know commands such as sit, stay, place, shake, lay down, release, drop it. I have great recall unless I’m feeling sassy. I sleep in my kennel unless you want cuddles ;)

There are a few other things I’m needing some support with. I don’t get along well with female dogs because i believe I’m an alpha. I used to have a best friend female Chihuahua, and she was great but she was submissive to me. I do tend to get flirty with other male dogs and small dogs and enjoy their presence if introduced correctly. I like to chase cats but have never been around them in a peaceful environment. I get along better with older kids, I don’t understand little kids and their spontaneous movements. It scares me.

Anyways, I can blabber on about myself but inquire more if you have specific questions. Thanks for considering me. I’m really just a huge lover looking for someone to give me lots of attention and play. When I’m in the right environment, I’m a zen dog and want to live life with you.

More about this rescue

Paws Ranch Rescue and Animal sanctuary (PRRAS for short) got its start in 2010 thanks to a publicly voted grant from Pepsi. We exist solely on grants, donations, and the help of our dedicated volunteers. Our goal is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home or provide sanctuary to as many pets as possible. Dozens of abused, abandoned, and neglected animals have already been saved by PRRAS. More than 75% of all pets picked up by animal control services (ACS) are euthanized. The numbers are staggering. On average 1,500 pets die every month! We at PRRAS along with the Alamo Area partnership for animal welfare (AAPAW) and other local rescues are striving to make San Antonio a NO KILL city by 2012. You can help by getting involved. Adopt a less adoptable pet, foster a pet, sponsor a special needs animal, become a volunteer, donate funds, pet supplies, or food, educate friends and neighbors about the stray pet problem, spay and neutering, and encourage them to adopt instead of breeding or buying. Together we can reach our goal of No Kill by 2012!
