Hi I’m Jenkins! Are you looking for the perfect adventure partner? I’m down for absolutely everything under the sun. I LOVE the water and my friends at the shelter love spraying me with a hose and watching me swim in the pool. As a young pup, I require A LOT of toys and enjoy playing tug of war, fetch with two balls (I’m working on my leave it right now and it’s going great!), and I also really like squeaky toys. I am independent and need to get my playing out before I seek affection from my humans (but I’m so cute when I play that my humans watching me enjoy myself should count as quality time!) My ideal home would be one with a yard or a human who will be willing to take me on a couple of walks if living in an apartment. I am housetrained and could have the potential to live with older kids if they don’t try to take my things. I am also VERY treat motivated and will show you a nice sit in exchange for one. I enjoy running along the fence with my fellow shelter pups but have not been tested with dogs quite yet. If you have a resident dog please set up some time for a meet and greet with the behavior team here at the shelter. I have no known history with cats.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
