My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Axel is 3 yrs old and weighs 50 lbs. He was rescued by an Egyptian woman after she spotted him in a Cairo pet shop, stuck for several months in a cage that was way too small for his size and being manhandled by the shop owner. She bought him out of pity to get him out of this abusive situation.

Axel is playful, happy, outgoing, adventurous, occasionally vocal, affectionate and sweet. Highly energetic. Very playful, he can get carried away with mouthing and sometimes playnips when at play. Axel is very friendly and open towards strangers and will not hesitate to dive straight in for human affection. He LOVES being complimented and receiving attention..
Axel can be assertive at times and let out howls when he wants attention. If he needs to go out, he will walk to the human who he is the most comfortable with and stare at them. Once you lock eyes with him, he will wag his tail and howl to let you know he needs to go outside. If you don’t lock eyes with him, he will let out a few grunts and whines to get your attention. He will only sometimes bark during playtime (mostly during a stare-down contest). He playfully growls whenever he plays tug-a-war with his toys. He tends to bark and cry when he sees other dogs because he wants to meet them.
Axel is very quiet outside of playtime and usually spends his time sleeping.

He is friendly towards visitors and strangers, all ages and both genders. Axel tends to be gentler with seniors/elderly people and children, reducing his reactions to sniffing their hands and giving kisses to their faces. With teenagers and adults, he is more likely to be excited and may stand up to greet them.

Axel is not initially friendly towards other dogs when they are around his owners, he tends to be protective of them and be leash reactive so proper intro is required. He has taken a 2-week dog behaviour-training program, where he showed friendliness towards other dogs of varying sizes, breeds, and genders when his owners weren’t present.

Axel is trustworthy and can be given free reins when home alone: yes, but do not leave the following around:

Axel is well housebroken and is very good at holding his bladder.
He is leash trained but pulls when he sees other dogs or small animals. He sits and gives paws for a treat. Say “gentle” and he will take it gently. Axel is very smart and has learned several commands sit, stay, no, go to bed, lay down/lie down, bad dog, good boy, yes, paw, other paw, “can you sing” (will howl in response), “enough” (will stop howling), come here, time for bed, let’s go. Responds to whistles.

He is crate trained and remains quiet, but does not like being crated
He cooperates during shampoo and rinse. Will nuzzle himself closer to you during towel-drying.

IDEAL ADOPTIVE CANDIDATE: active, outdoorsy adults, who has time to dedicate to an energetic dog, well experienced with large breed dogs, preferably familiar with the husky breed and live in a house with a large securely fenced backyard for extra exercise.
