My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MURPHIE (A Law Unto Herself), 19 weeks old, 40 pounds. Female Great Pyrenees mix (sire was 100% pyr, and dam was 50% pyr/50% akita). Cream colored, fluffy coat.
Murphie has the sweetest and softest eyes that will melt your heart. And her eyes match her personality. Her sweet temperament wins over everyone she meets. Murphie loves to snuggle and will crawl into your lap for lovies. She is a mellow, gentle, easy-going girl who enjoys sitting in the shade of a big tree with her people to watch the world go by. She often sleeps on her back, as if inviting the world to come and get her.
Murphie is still a puppy and has some of that appropriate puppy energy to get out. She enjoys running after her sister in the high grass and wrestling when she catches her. Of course, given her fur coat she tires quickly in the heat. She may become more energetic once the temperatures get cooler. During the hot days of summer, her favorite place may be in your lap under the air conditioning vent.
Murphie has been well socialized to men, women, children, different races, dogs of different sizes/ages/colors, public and private venues, storms, fireworks, cars, motorcycles, bikes, scooters, beards, hats, umbrellas, loud household noises and even drones! She is drawn to other dogs and wants to be close to them. If the other dog seems playful, she’ll do a play bow to engage them.
Murphie is a smart girl and has made wonderful progress in her training. Murphie attended a training academy at Peaceable Paws and has learned to sit, down, and puppy push-ups (go from a sit to a down and back to a sit). She is very proud of that skill. She can stand from a sit or down position with the help of a lure. She is also working on learning some tricks to show off to her new family such as spin, twirl, and weaving between human legs as you walk. She has also made great strides with walking politely on a leash. Being a puppy, Murphie is curious and will grab anything that fits in her mouth, so we practice lots of leave-its and trades. With her trade skills and soft mouth it is easy to get items away from her before any harm is done. Typical of a livestock-guarding breed, Murphie works best in short stretches. Also, she can be somewhat treat-selective. Her favorite training treats are meat-based baby food, freeze-dried cheese, and beef liver. She is a puppy so she can work well for about 5-10 minutes and then she benefits from a break. Her favorite break is find-it which involves looking for treats on the ground.
Murphie is a puppy and will need ongoing training and puppy socialization classes. If you live near Fairplay, MD, you can take advantage of a free Basic Good Manner’s class at Peaceable Paws. Or we can recommend good trainers wherever you live.
Murphie would not be suitable as a livestock guarding dog. Murphie’s ideal home is a single-family home with a physical fence. She LOVES other dogs and would benefit from a canine companion. She is fascinated by cats’ movements and will chase, but hasn’t done harm – if you have cats, they should be dog savvy. Murphie’s laid back and easy-going nature makes her a good match for children over 5.
This breed is not for everyone. Previous dog experience is preferred, but at a minimum, please do some research on Great Pyrenees before you apply.
The adoption fee is $450 and includes all puppy shots and her spay.
