Here's what the humans have to say about me:
In Pomfret Center, CT - Meet Corbin, a super chill, 3.5 year old, neutered male. He's always on the sidelines watching but typically just keeps to himself, even outside. He shows up when there's food or when he wants to be cuddled. Corbin LOVES to be cuddled. Every morning at sunrise, he emerges from his crate, leaps onto my bed and flops down on top of me for a morning cuddle session. And if anyone interrupts, he pushes and nudges and squirms until they go away. He's very serious about his cuddle time.
Corbin is extremely food motivated. He's always first to show up for treats and dinner. He sits so nicely, even scoots around me while still sitting just to make sure he's not overlooked while still being polite. Sometimes he'll even remain seated while eating his food, so cute. If food is left on the counter, he'll sit and stare up at it until someone puts it away, but he has never even once put his paws up there. He just wants you to know that he's very interested in that food in case you wanted to share it with him.
Corbin is great with my female dogs, even Izzy who is mouthy, demanding and has resource guarding issues. Corbin handles her with tact and grace and is a perfect gentleman, even when she's a little terror. I love watching him play with her. In his previous home he played nicely with their male puppy, but definitely did not like the one intact male dog he met recently. Corbin has a high prey drive and will go after cats.
Corbin is great on a leash and in the car. He actually loves the car. He'll just hang out in the back of my car when I'm outside working in the yard and is pretty reluctant to get out unless I offer him a treat. I do a lot of off-leash hiking which Corbin loves but he does wander and sometimes doesn't come back right away like the other dogs. I bought him a GPS collar so I can always track where he is just in case. I always appreciate that Corbin doesn't like to roll in or eat disgusting stuff that we come across on our hikes (unlike the other 2 dogs).
Corbin startles quite easily so I have to be careful about opening doors/drawers/refrigerator too quickly. I always talk to him and explain what I'm about to do so he can prepare himself. He'll watch and listen, turning his head back and forth while I explain everything. He is absolutely fascinated with the magic that happens in the kitchen. He loves to smell all the spices and foods and watch how we put it all together. It's really cute how interested he is and how willing he is to try new foods. He loves berries, especially frozen ones.
Corbin doesn't play with toys, but it's probably because he doesn't want to deal with Izzy who launches herself at every dog who dares to play with them. I think it's just not worth it to him. My guess is that he would be interested in toys, especially antlers and other chew toys if he wasn't around Izzy.
Corbin loves crates, especially if he has the freedom to come and go on his own. He even fits himself into Izzy's crate which is really too small for him but he doesn't seem to mind. He prefers not to be shut in but he's really good about it when I need to contain him.
Corbin is pretty good around kids but you do need to be vigilant because they make him nervous. Sometimes he'll give a subtle growl so I'll just leash him, gate or crate him so everyone feels safe, including him. I do the same when visitors come. He's usually the last to join in the barking, sometimes doesn't even bark at all but I always try to be proactive in those situations. If everyone ignores him, he's pretty calm. He usually just keeps to himself and watches from the sidelines. His beautiful blue eyes and freckled nose melts everyone. Everywhere I go, people fall in love with Corbin!
Corbin needs a fully fenced yard. On occasion, he has slipped out of my fenced yard without me realizing until I hear him barking at the neighbor in their own yard (so embarrassing). My yard is sandwiched between multiple other homes so his sense of boundaries isn't very accurate. He typically corrects very easily though, so if I catch him sneaking out, I'll just remind him that he needs to stay in "this yard" and he'll come right back.
Overall, Corbin is a really great dog. He's cooperative and eager to please and a total love bug. I wouldn't recommend him for a first-time dog owner or one that has a lot going on in the home. He has responded really well to my calm, quiet home and I think that has helped him to feel more secure and at ease. Also no homes with male teenagers. They seem to make him the most nervous. If you think Corbin would be the perfect dog for you, please fill out an application below. Corbin is being fostered in Pomfret, CT.
