My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shirley showed up at our shelter trying to get into our cat building.  We could not find out where she belonged so we brought her inside.  She was a little unpredictable at first and liked to swat at us, but it only took about a week to gain her trust.  She loves cheek scratches and treats and she gets along well with the other cats. She does prefer to be outside though, but is litterbox trained. We believe she is about 2-3 years old.   If you would like more information, please contact our shelter at 870-269-5200 or go to our website and complete an adoption application at schspets.org

More about this shelter

The Stone County Humane Society is a 501(C)(3) private organization, not a government entity that was formed in 1999. We rescue dogs and cats and are a no-kill shelter but we are not an open take in facility. We are currently operating from our new shelter building recently completed in August 2016 and a cat cottage. Our organization is managed by a volunteer board of 10 individuals and a full-time paid employee shelter manager that handles the day to day operations, and three part-time paid employees that feed and care for the animals and keep the facility clean. Most of our daily operations are funded by proceeds from a Second Chance Shop in town and donations from individuals. We also provide low cost spay/neuter clinics to the people of our county with help from a local vet.
