My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bessie, the sunshine-loving sweetheart who's ready to brighten up your world! She is a 5-year-old Pit Bull mix that weighs 50 pounds and is in search of her forever home. We can't wait to introduce you to this bundle of joy! Bessie is an energetic and lovable girl who thrives in the warmth of the sun. While she may be a bit shy initially, a few tasty treats are all it takes to win her heart. Bessie is a fan of outdoor adventures, whether it's going for walks, playing with her beloved toys, or simply lounging on her comfy dog bed. This delightful pup is up for any activity you have in mind, be it a lively outdoor excursion or a cozy couch snuggle session.

Introducing her to new furry friends should be done slowly and with care, but with a proper introduction she could make a great playmate to another dog in her home. For families with children, Bessie would love to have companions ages 13 and older, as her initial shyness requires a gentle approach. But once she warms up, get ready for an abundance of love and affection from this total lovebug!

Check out Bessie's adorable video of her playing with one of her favorite toys, a squish mallow!

If Bessie sounds like the girl for you, give us a call at 330-487-0333 ext 226 to learn more about her and schedule a time to come in and meet!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.

More about this shelter

Since 1968, the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) has been the trusted caretaker and advocate for Summit County’s victims of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and stray animals suffering from illness and injury. We employ two full-time Humane Officers who respond to emergency calls, investigate animal cruelty, and, as warranted, prosecute offenders. We protect and care for our community’s abused, discarded, and forgotten animals. We strive every day to rehabilitate our rescued animals, find them great homes, and provide them with bright futures.
