Everybody loves Kelpie! So what does Kelpie love you ask? He loves toys, playing in the yard, playing with his canine foster bro, and most of all he loves his foster mom. He’ll even follow her into the shower.
Don't let his grey hair fool you, this boy is still a young pup so his motto in life is 'play, play, play'! He can often be found chasing a ball or a stick around the yard and can even entertain himself by throwing his toys in the air or chasing his own tail. Kelpie also enjoys the presence of other dogs. His canine foster bro was a wee bit hard to win over but Kelpie wiggled his way into his heart in no time.
For Kelpie's future home, he must go to a family that is home a lot of time for him as he does not like being left alone. A home in the suburbs will be key as he does not enjoy the loud sounds of the city buses or trucks. If you're an older, retired couple that still likes to be active, Kelpie will be your new bff! He walks pretty well on leash and loves to meet all of the dogs that he passes.
Kelpie is still working on his boundaries in the home so someone who is willing to limit his privileges will be ideal. He would love to go to a home that has an existing dog to play with, but if no dog in the home we would love to hear about your ideas for socialization and any dogs you know that could be his BFF. Kelpie passed his cat test in Mexico but is known to chase a squirrel or two in the backyard of his foster home. Kelpie would be better suited for a quieter home with older children only (no crazy kids for this boy).
Kelpie's training in his foster home has been going well. He is house trained and sleeps in his crate overnight. He will protest slightly but he settles quickly. Kelpie is a little bit cautious of meeting new people that come into the house or yard, but after a treat or two, he is able to warm up quickly.
If Kelpie sounds like your future family member, please check out the adoption process and application at www.dibsrescue.com. His adoption fee is $750. If you are a family with older kids, please check out our resources on kids and dogs before you apply (https://dibsrescue.com/kids-dogs/).
