Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Have you ever wanted your very own house panther? Then Rickenbacker is the one for you! This sweet little black cat was surrendered to us after his owner passed away. He will be 6 years old in June. We were worried about how he would respond to being taken from the only home he’s ever known, but after a little over a week of being very standoffish and unsure, he really started to come around. He is a shy, timid boy, but once he learned that we were only here to help and love him, he really warmed up to us.
Rickenbacker asks that you be patient with him while he gets used to his new surroundings. Don’t try to pressure him into playing or cuddling right away. Give him time to figure out where he is and who you are, and you will be rewarded with the cutest little cooing chirps and plenty of sweet head bumps.
Also, even though he might act uninterested at first, this boy loves playing with and catching dangling toys after he feels comfortable.
His back story is a sad one, but our goal here is to find him a loving home with a companion who will let him be him on his terms, and who will welcome him when he is ready to come out of his shell and start reciprocating that love and affection. Basically, he is looking for someone that is going to spoil him and just shower him with love, and remind him that there is still a place and a person in this world who can show him the love and companionship he is so sorely missing.
A little background information, Rickenbacker (or Ricky, for short) is a DSH black cat, with a soft sleek coat and big yellow-green eyes that will melt your heart. He is litter box trained, and prefers dry food over wet food, but when he first comes home, he might not eat or use the box for the first few days. It’s best if you have a designated location where he can be alone during his introductory period. He has lived most of his life as a solo pet, but seems to not be too bothered by our resident cats. They aren’t best friends, but he understands their personal space and expects his to be respected as well. He hasn’t interacted very much with small children, but as long as they understand to be patient with him, we believe he will be a friendly, lovable pet for any age. Knowing he is in a safe space is very important to him. The quicker he sees that he is safe, the quicker he will start showing off his goofy, playful personality.
He just passed his health exam with flying colors! He is fully vaccinated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV and is looking to start his next chapter in life. Ricky is a big, 12 pound love loaf, and he is going to make whoever adopts him very happy. Our own experience with orphaned cats has taught us that they appreciate being adopted so much more, and they love so much harder than the little kittens do.
So please apply today to make Rickenbacker the newest addition to your family. You won’t regret it! This handsome house panther is ready to shake off the blues from his past experience, and start fresh in a new home. He’s got so much love to offer, and he is hoping to find someone or some family deserving to share it with. Is that you?
