My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We are excited for you to meet 3 wonderful Great Pyrenees Pups
Please note - Peachy has been adopted!
A note before you read their profiles - Because of the special needs of this breed, we hold the following requirements. Adopters who cannot meet all of these requirements will not be considered and should not apply:
*Indoor pets only -- these are NOT suitable as livestock guarding dogs
*Single-family home only - condos, townhomes, and apartments will not be considered
*Fenced yard with a physical fence that's at least 4 feet tall
*No children under the age of 7
*Must enroll the puppy in a force-free puppy class or basic manners class
*Previous dog experience is required. Previous breed experience is preferred
*Understanding of the significant grooming care this breed will require as well as understanding that significant shedding will occur
On May 6, they were 8 weeks old. Each has a distinct personality.
MURPHIE (A Law Unto Herself), at 14.2 lbs. She may be small, but she is mighty! She is the smallest of the three girls but has learned how to hold her own with her bigger sisters. She has the sweetest and softest eyes that will melt your heart. She is happy and loves attention.
PANDI – 16.6 lbs. Pandora or Pandemonium has a great sense of adventure. She’s the one with the raccoon eyes. She’s usually the first to hit the food dishes and the first to try out a new toy. Soft and fluffy and loves to be pet.
PEACHY – 18.8 lbs. Peaches-and-Cream is the largest and probably the most independent of the puppies. She challenges obstacles with purpose and confidence. As soft as she is sweet, she loves her rubs.
The pups climb, romp, crawl, tumble, and play tug together. They live in a large pen right now and keep their sleeping area clean. They are fluffy, amazingly soft, and they love to be handled and carried around. They are friendly and responsive to everyone who meets them, and they already respond to HERE and INSIDE. They have also started on SIT.
We wanted to provide a bit of information for those not familiar with the breed Great Pyrenees. Pyrs are sensitive, observant, thoughtful dogs who will reward kindness, love, and pet-friendly training with bold-faced adoration. They are relationship specialists, but they won’t tolerate abusive handling, dominance-style training, or being ignored.
About their parents: The pups’ sire was a purebred Great Pyrenees, around 120 lbs., and the dam was ½ Pyr and ½ Akita, around 70 lbs. Peachy and Pandi look like their sire, while Murphie looks like their mom. All three dogs probably got their curly tails from their Akita side.
These pups have received daily handling of feet, ears, mouths, all body parts, and they have been combed regularly as well. It is vitally important that adoptive parents keep up these practices, so they will be able to perform basic grooming as the pups grow. If you can keep them combed, then the dogs will look and smell better, especially at shedding time. You’ll save on grooming bills too.
Pyrs tend to be very loyal to their family, and they are bred to be independent thinkers. They are guardians by breeding. As household pets, they are highly trainable and can perform in many canine sports; however, they can also be stubborn, so patience in training may be needed.
These pups have had an excellent start with careful socialization with men, women, teenagers, thunderstorms, loud noises, and more.
These pups have enjoyed every offered treat so far, including freeze-dried liver, and they will excel with positive reinforcement training. They get a lightly stuffed Kong at bedtime (a schmear of peanut butter with a few pieces of apple, berries, or liver), so they already understand and love the classic Kong toy. They will play tug-of-war with a human or with another dog, and no resource-guarding behavior has been observed. They don’t have much interest in stuffed toys.
CAUTIONARY NOTE TO ADOPTERS: Being a large breed, Great Pyrenees are subject to bloat from eating too quickly and sucking in air. Adopters should plan on using a slow-feeding tool when feeding these pups for life, whether a muffin tin, a “slo-bowl” or stuffed food toys such as classic Kongs. Pyrs can scarf up an amazing amount of water too, so smaller water bowls refilled during the day are highly recommended as well.
Adoption fee of $450 - this includes all puppy shots and the spay
