My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chip, a 6-year-old Lab and Great Pyrenees mix with a heart full of love and a playful spirit. Chip has been with us for a while, making him one of our beloved "forget-me-not" dogs, and he's truly deserving of a special place to call his forever home. Though we don't know much about his past-he was picked up by animal control-what we do know is that Chip is incredibly friendly with people and has a lot of love to give.

Chip's personality is as big as his heart. Despite his age, he has the playful energy of a much younger dog and is always ready for a game or an adventure. His favorite activities include going on car rides, where he happily gazes out the window, and going for leisurely walks, where he shows off his excellent leash manners. Chip seems to be housetrained, so he's ready to transition smoothly into a home environment. His obedient nature makes him a joy to be around, and he responds well to structure and commands.

Affectionate and sweet, Chip thrives on human attention. He'll greet you with a wagging tail and a sparkle in his eye, eager for a pat on the head or a belly rub. Chip loves children and would make a wonderful companion for a family, as he's gentle and caring with young ones. He's the kind of dog who wants to be your loyal sidekick, always there to bring a smile to your face.

One important thing to note is that Chip is happiest as the only pet in the home. While he's loving and playful with people, he prefers to have his own space and can be defensive if he has to share his territory with other animals. A pet-free household would allow Chip to relax and truly be himself, without the worry of guarding his space. He'll flourish in a home where he's the center of attention and can soak up all the love he craves.

Chip is a wonderful blend of affectionate and independent. His ideal family would be one that understands his need for attention and play, balanced with his preference for a pet-free environment. He's smart, well-behaved, and loves routine, making him easy to manage and a joy to have around. Chip has been waiting patiently for his forever home, and he deserves a family that will appreciate his playful, loyal, and loving nature.

If you're looking for a loyal companion who will bring joy, love, and a big dose of fun into your life, come meet Chip. He's ready to give his whole heart to a family who will cherish him as much as he'll cherish them. Chip is more than ready to leave shelter life behind and start his new chapter as a beloved family member-could that be with you? Chip's adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous donor.

More about this shelter

Dogwood Animal Shelter is a non-profit, no-kill shelter.

Since its infancy, compassionate, like-minded volunteers have been the driving force behind Dogwood Animal Shelter. Through auctions and sales, a handful of dedicated people raised enough money to build its first, albeit small facility and was established as a 501(c) 3 in 1976. It was filled beyond capacity almost immediately.

The shelter is funded entirely from donations and proceeds from their Dogwood Animal Shelter Thrift Store.

After years of saving, planning and busting at the seams with fur-babies, in 2005 it was time to build a new facility with their own in-house clinic! Under the direction of Dr. John Reinhold and coupled with a very dedicated and gifted team of Veterinarians and staff, Dogwood Animal Shelter continues to offer low cost spays and neuters to the public as well as services to their shelter buddies; services to approximately 2,000 dogs and cats yearly!

Dogwood Animal Shelter began their journey of being a successful no-kill shelter in 1997, and since then has saved over 40,000 lives!
