Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
He might not have electric boots or a mohair suit, but our Benny is one of a kind! Benny is an 8 month old neutered male Labrador Retriever mix who came into the shelter as a stray but was never claimed. Benny definitely likes to jet - he will need an active, experienced owner to tire him out and help him be the best Benny that he can be!
This high energy boy will need someone with experience in basic training, especially working with him on his leash skills and his tendency to mouth at arms and clothing and to jump up excitedly on people. When working with staff during training sessions, Benny surprised everyone and did very well! Shelter staff think that at some point in his `puppyhood` Benny attended some basic obedience classes, but we unfortunately cannot confirm this!
Benny is very food-motivated, and tends to have better focus on commands when there is a reward in it for him (if ever a dog needed a t-shirt with `will work for treats` emblazoned on the back, Benny is THAT dog). Unfortunately, once treats are taken out of the equation, Benny tends to lose focus and `forget` his manners. With additional training, we think that he will learn to be more consistent! Luckily, this boy will provide enough love and laughs in the meantime to make him worth the effort!
If you think you can handle the loveable smiling Benny, contact the East Region shelter at 416-338-7539!
