My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jake, who also goes by JJ, is a GSD mix from the Navajo reservation. He and his brother were pulled from Navajo Nation Animal Control prior to the weekly euthanasia that all impounded animals are subject to every Friday.

Jake is 1 year old, 82 lbs, stands 26” at the shoulder, and his fur coat is super soft. He is good-natured, super happy, not interested in being bossy, and likes to get along with his people and pack. He is used to living with other dogs and gets along beautifully. He is very healthy and has no special nutritional requirements or health concerns. Jake's formal and informal training has been focused on becoming a well-mannered family member who can easily and comfortably integrate into a wide variety of family activities and social situations.

In true GSD form, Jake is highly intelligent, learns very quickly, and his mind is always going. He is on the higher end of the self-confidence scale, has a moderately high level of energy, and enjoys being involved in as many activities as possible. A typical week for Jake may include some of the following: practicing and learning new tricks and commands, going on formal walks on the leash, going on off-leash treks through the desert to chase lizards and rabbits, going to the river to swim and play, lots of hard playing with his brother in the yard, a visit to the dog park to make new friends, going in to pet-friendly stores, and plenty of riding in the Jeep so he can hang his head out the window and observe everything. He’s a favorite at the dog park and likes to play with everyone he can. He is respectful of boundaries given by other dogs.

He also has some experience traveling and staying in pet-friendly hotels. He is an easy traveler and a gentleman in hotels. He has lots of experience walking amongst crowds, around traffic and noise, and is completely at ease doing so. He knows when he comes to a street crossing that he must first stop and sit.

Jake earned his AKC Intermediate Trick Dog title because he enjoys learning tricks and more importantly the process developed the far more valuable behaviors of being attentive, self-regulating, eager to learn, and eager to please. There is no expectation of his adopting family to continue him down the trick dog path.

His diet is grain-free and kibble-free and includes a variety of premium canned dog food, homemade food, and supplements from K9 Power, such as Total K9 and Show Stopper. Additional supplements include dehydrated fermented mushrooms and dehydrated organic beef organs. He also loves for you to share with him some of your raw fruits and vegetables, such as green beans, mushrooms, bananas, blueberries, cantaloupe, jicama, and watermelon. His drinking water is reverse osmosis purified.

Jake is current for the core vaccinations of parvovirus, distemper, canine hepatitis, and rabies. BLC subscribes to and follows the recommendations of Dr. Ronald L. Schultz of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, considered to be the world’s leading expert on companion animal immunology. Jake's recent fecal test shows negative results for internal parasites despite never having any of the standard toxic anti-parasitics in or on his body. A copy of his fecal test, vaccination history, and microchip information will be provided to his adopting family.

Jake would like to be adopted with his best friend and brother, Jesse, who is a registered therapy dog through Pet Partners.

Please send an email to bigluckclub@gmail.com for questions about Jake or to request a link to an online adoption application. The adoption process can include an adoption application, phone interview, reference checks, confirmation of living arrangement with yard, and copies of government issued photo I.D.’s. Out of state applicants are welcome and an adoption will only take place to an outstanding dog family.
