Peggy and siblings were left outside the shelter in a crate. They were still puppies and were vetted and cared for by our sister rescue SOS el Arca in Playa del Carmen.
Peggy’s progress in her foster home shows she is willing to trust as long as it is on her timeline. She has transitioned into a frightened little girl to one who only wants to be beside her human who gives her comfort.
Peggy walks well on leash, and the foster considers her one of the easiest dogs to walk. She is constantly checking to make sure she is right beside you and looks up for encouragement. Everything is new to her and she needs time to process all the new sounds, sights and smells, and as she becomes accustomed to them, her demeanour becomes calmer. Peggy’s process can be contributed to another foster dog arriving who, in the days following, taught Peggy some dog behaviour. She commenced to copy everything her foster friend did and follows him everywhere. She is very happy to have a companion and it has made a huge difference in Peggy understanding that she was safe. Thank you Milo!
Peggy is housetrained and crate trained, when she requires downtime, it is her go to place. She currently lives with two dog savvy cats and is very accepting of them. She is still learning human interaction and it would be beneficial for her to settle into her forever home sooner rather than later.
Her ideal home would be one of patience, patience, patience. The adopter would have to understand that Peggy needs to take it slow so a quiet, calm home is necessary for her to move forward. A dog sibling would be very beneficial for her as well, and cats she is also able to live with. A home with a securely fenced in yard is a must as she is a definite flight risk at first. A person(s) who has had experience with shy/fearful dogs would be beneficial!
If you feel you would be the right fit for Peggy, please fill out an adoption application at www.allpawsmatter.ca\
All APM dogs are UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed or neutered, dewormed, Heart worm (4dx snap) tested and arrive with a health certificate. They come to adopter with a harness, a collar and two leashes for safety.
NOTE: The above description is relevant to this dog in its current and previous setting. Home changes and adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen. We also do not claim or suggest that our dogs are hypo-allergenic or that they shed/do not shed.
BREED DISCLAIMER: We are never sure of the breed of our dogs since they arrive off the streets or shelters. It is a guess only!
