Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Names: Gru (male) & Agnes(female)
Nickname: Collectively “the hotdogs”
Breed: Dachshund
Age: 6 years (Gru) & 4 years (Agnes)
Weights: 14 pounds (Gru) 16 pounds(Agnes)
Before OMD: Owner surrenders. This father and daughter duo were bounced around a bit before safely landing in OMD. They came to us obese and with severe dental disease. Their weight loss journey is still very much in progress, but they did both have dentals and had 50 teeth removed between the two of them.
Energy levels: Low.
Affection levels: High. They are definitely lap dogs.
What we love most: How they always make sure that foster mom is okay when she goes to the scary bathroom. Their short-legged waddle when they walk anywhere. Gru's attachment to his blanket – he carries it with him everywhere. Agnes' kleptomania when it comes to laundry, especially socks. She also loves to roll around in her stash of thieved items, in absolute glee.
What he loves: His aforementioned blanket
What she loves: Her person
What they love: Food
Party trick: Their incredible ability to stare into your soul. They’ve never lost a staring contest
Stranger danger: Yep. They lack confidence in the outside world and with new people and situations. There is a warming-up period for both of them. Give them a few minutes though (and maybe a treat or two) and you've got two new besties who will constantly have your back when it's time for a trip to the bathroom.
Apartment friendly: Hard pass. They’re barkers when you’re not home.
Leash manners: Actually, pretty good other than the inevitable leash tangling
Down to the details: Gru guards his food with dogs and some people. He will also ONLY eat when right next to Agnes. Agnes is a lap guarder with people and other animals. She also guards her bed from other animals but that doesn't include Gru. Got all of that?
Dogs: Depends. We think they would love to be the only two pups in your life, but they do currently live with a large-breed female dog and think they could live with another dog in their forever home. The other dogs should be tolerant and non-reactive to their sass-pot ways about approaching their bed, food, and person's lap when they are on it.
Cats: The above sass-pot behaviors apply to cats as well, so it just depends on the cat
Kids: 12+ please.
House-trained: Nope, and they are super stubborn about it. We're actually convinced that their life goal is to be as not house-trained as possible.
Crate-trained: Yes!
Gru and Agnes are spayed and neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. They available for adoption to residents of Connecticut and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org
