My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOG: MARSHA
GENDER: FEMALE
DOB: 04-19-20
WEIGHT: 50 approx
BREED: Nova Scotia Duck Toller Retriever

ADOPTED ON 06-01-23 Meet beautiful Marsha. She came to us from a family desperate to see her in a better place. How heartbreaking it must be to give up a member of the family because you can no longer care for them. But imagine how scared, lonely, and confused this dog is, wondering why her family left her and when would they ever be back? Sadly, this type of situation happens every so often, but we are grateful they brought Marsha to us, rather than leaving her to fend for herself, or worse. We are confident this sweet girl will win over someone’s heart and find a new, loving home!

Marsha is a 3 year old, 50 pound Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, with the most gorgeous golden eyes. Foster mom says she is very sweet and thoroughly enjoys attention and affection. She loves all people, all dogs, and is a great “mama” to the puppies in the foster home. She has been seen playing with them, teaching them manners, and gently correcting them when they are naughty. She will be ready to come up North at the end of May or the beginning of June.

Marsha is also very playful and would probably enjoy going on hikes and other adventures. The best part is that she is fantastic with children because she is so gentle and patient. We always stress, however, that children and dogs should never be left unsupervised, but so far, Marsha has been wonderful! Marsha definitely needs a NO cat/small animal home, though, as she is a hunting breed and is prey driven.

All dogs, like humans, have certain traits, however, it is important to know that dogs and humans, regardless of the breed or ethnic group, are all social family oriented and their characteristics are only one of their many awesome qualities.

When deciding on a new addition to the family, it’s always wise to research breeds so that your new member is a perfect fit.

The smallest of the retrievers, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is intelligent, affectionate, and eager to please. Play fetch with a tireless Toller until your right arm falls off, and he will ask you to throw left-handed. The little gundog with the big name is the smallest retriever, standing ideally 18 or 19 inches at the shoulder.

The Toller's trademark is a coat of stunning crimson, ranging from golden red to a dark coppery color, with white markings. Strong and agile, Toller’s are medium dogs: medium in size, bone, and coat length. The almond-shaped eyes project an alert expression. Toller’s are upbeat athletes who require outlets for their boundless vigor: hunting, hiking, camping, and, of course, swimming (for which they are ideally suited, down to their webbed feet). Toller’s are smart, handsome, and affectionate companions.

Take a deep breath, if you have never owned a Duck Toller, dive into the breed world with Marsha and discover the behavior and personality that makes her such a beloved family member—this breed has got it all and 89th most popular dog breed in the world. The Toller also make a fun and loving companion and home pet. They are affectionate, eager to please, busy, and get along well with children—they are good family dogs.

Consider opening your home and heart up to this wonderful girl. We would love to let her previous family know that she is safe and loved, and we’d especially love to see this deserving girl being doted on in a new home so she will no longer be sad and confused. Marsha is such a sweetheart, she will make a wonderful companion to any family!
