My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Biscuit is a spayed female bulldog who is deaf. She is the sweetest and doesn’t know she’s deaf. To whom it may concern:
Biscuit is an approximately 14-month-old female English Bulldog who was surrendered to the Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department in December 2022 for bullying the senior dog in the home according to her former owners. She was adopted in December 2022 following her sterilization and cherry eye surgery and was in her second home for 4 months. These are the observations of her second owners:
Biscuit lived in a home with 5 other dogs and bullying was not observed, however she does need some work on boundaries and can nip too hard when playing. She seems receptive to “corrections” by other dogs but might not do well with senior or smaller dogs because she plays rough. She loved wrestling and playing with one of the larger dogs in the house.
We can confirm she is deaf; she hears occasional tones and pitches but does not respond to verbal commands at all.
The hand commands she knows for sit is to point down (still requires a treat sometimes to get her to do it), and she’ll follow your hand as direction (for example, I point into her crate for her to go into it) We use a thumbs up and clapping for “good girl”
She is crate trained and sleeps in hers through the night most nights without issue. She is used to getting a treat for going to her kennel.
She occasionally gets an anal gland smell and may need glands expressed and/or may benefit from adding pumpkin to her diet. I believe I had her glands checked by a vet the first time I noticed it and they stated they were nearly empty so she does seem to self-express. The smell rarely persists more than a few hours.
She needs to be watched with plush toys as she will eat the stuffing if she gets to it. She is beginning to show a little interest in the blanket in her kennel as well, but so far has not torn it up, mostly seems to play with it. She likes to play with balls and does not destroy those.
I have seen some mild resource guarding with toys (however most the time she’s fine, it seems to be “high value” toys only, like new ones and plushies) and have also seen her try to steal other dog’s toys. We have not experienced any fights in the time she has been with us, but have had a few heated interactions we had to intervene to calm down and remove the object they both wanted.
She loves her people and loves a good cuddle on the couch. She’s a complete ham, goofy, spirited, sometimes sleeps sitting up. 😊
She does eat poop here and will sometimes bring it inside (eww, I know)
We have a dog door which she is familiar with and knows to potty in the yard. She still occasionally potties in the house if in an enclosed space (like the bathroom, which is where she is fed currently)
Biscuit has been loved very much during her time with us and giving her up is an act of love in this situation. There are circumstances that just would not allow her to thrive, and we want what’s best for her. I wish her the happiest of lives with her perfect forever family.
