My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Birdie is a 4-year old, 60lb cattle dog mix. Birdie came to PNWCDR in July from San Antonio, Texas. Birdie is the mother of our Bird Pup Litter (Quail, Dove, Parrot, Sparrow, Rosie, Lory, Lovebird and Dove) and is now ready for a home of her own!

Birdie is a sweet and gentle tempered girl who loves to be with her people. She wants to be part of a family who enjoys adventures and time outside. Whenever there are signs that her humans are getting ready to go outside, she becomes animated and joyful.

In new situations, Birdie is a cautious girl who needs time to warm up with people and dogs. She can be timid at first ducking her head to avoid being touched. Once she understands the rhythms and what to expect she begins to trust and becomes a happy and loyal friend. Birdie enjoys hikes, walks, fetch, frisbee, and anything active... especially running!

Birdie loves playing with other dogs. She can be hesitant when meeting new dogs, but once she feels safe, she is friendly and ready to play! She generally has a submissive and "puppy-like" playstyle with other dogs. She adapts well to different dog's personalities and can self-entertain when other dogs aren't around.

Birdie has done well with children who are calm and respect her space. She may initially be nervous around new children but is curious and interested. She is a family dog at heart. She may shy away from loud voices or fast movements and if things get too intense for her, she will select to take a break in another room.

Birdie spends time off leash outside and has selective recall, especially when there are interesting things to explore. She really wants to learn and improve her impulse skills. She is looking for an adopter who is willing to work with her on impulse control and recall skills as well as any confidence building skills, she wants to please. Right now, Birdie is a flight risk off leash in new situations, with patience, trust and training she is capable of being off leash.

Birdie is great in a crate and doesn't show signs of separation anxiety. She loves to go for a ride in the car and is a great traveler.

Birdie would prefer a home without cats (however dominant cats would likely keep Birdie in check), chickens, or other small animals.

Please note: We do not do DNA testing on our foster dogs. The breed description is our best guess based on the dog’s appearance, mother’s appearance, paperwork, etc.
