My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

THANK YOU for finding us and interest in our rescued dog. Because we are an international rescue through Taiwan. The dogs are likely still in Taiwan and you will have to meet your dog(s) and pick your dog(s) up from the airport.

Hugo is a 5 month old boy who loves life. Sadly, he was found at a park by the rescuer around 3 months old. He approached the rescuer to seek affection. We knew then he must have had a home before since he was not afraid of people.
Hugo is good with everyone he meets, regardless adults or children (no gender preferences either)! He loves to play with other dogs. Hugo has the typical energy of a puppy and loves to play. However, he started crate training and is getting used to it. We recommend giving him a break and a nap time in between plays in either a small playpen or his crate. He does whine a little bit at the beginning, but nothing excessive.
As mentioned earlier, Hugo loves to be with people and would approach strangers. He is submissive when you approach him instead of the other way around (we always recommend letting the dogs come to you when you first meet them – to respect their spaces). Although Hugo loves attention from people, he would sit quietly by you if you don’t want to play or pet him. He is good with kids but just like most puppies, he might be too excited and might accidentally tackle a smaller child or toddler. We recommend that you keep an eye on Hugo playing with small children.
Hugo enjoys playing with dogs his size. When larger dogs approach him, he would tug his tail between his legs but still allow them to sniff him. He plays well with smaller dogs. If he’s at a dog park with many new dogs, he would stand and observe before joining in the fun.
Hugo is curious about cats. He observes them first before approaching. If the cats don’t want to play, he would still try to play with them.
Hugo is very food motivated and would focus solely on you if you have food or treats. Beware of any food left in the open or open trash cans, these would be temptations for him. We recommend putting things out of his reach or get closed trash cans before you do any training. He does not show any food or resource guarding but if other dogs come for his food, he will be a little protective of his food (which is a common behavior for most dogs). He would eat really fast to prevent other dogs from getting his food. It might be because he was abandoned to fend for himself at a very young age.
He is very active and playful, and loves to be outside playing. However, if you give him chew toys, he is fine playing with the chew toys inside. As Hugo is in the teething stage, you don’t want to leave him alone without things to do, he could potentially consider furniture and other stuff you leave around as chew toys. He is house-trained using pee pads but again, as a puppy, he might still have accidents if you don’t take him out after he plays inside for a while. We recommend giving him a smaller space to use pee pads. If you give him too much space, he might miss his spot (indoor). Hugo does well walking on leash. He likes to sniff around but is very calm being on walks. He’s pretty regular and does his business both on morning and evening walks. As with all puppies, their bladder controls need work and we highly recommend taking them out several times a day to prevent accidents in the house.
Hugo does well bathing but is not a fan of nail cutting.
Hugo has minor separation anxiety. This is understandable since he was abandoned as a puppy. He might cry a bit at first but with training and treats, it gets better. He doesn’t bark often. He only barks to alert and will calm down after a few minutes. He gets startled sometimes by sudden loud noise or when a stranger approaches in the dark (night walk) and might bark.
Hugo is a typical puppy with the good and the bad habits of a puppy. However, he learns fast and loves people. With patience and training, he would be a great addition to any family. If you are interested in him, please contact us! We are happy to share any details about Hugo.
