My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you working from home or retired? Do you have a little extra time to devote to a furry friend?  Amber has been looking for you! Amber is the sweetest 8-year-old girl who has been with our rescue for quite a while.  She is a bit cautious and needs someone understanding and patient that will give her the time and attention she requires to get comfortable. Once she gains your trust, Amber loves to be pet & brushed. She will sit endlessly enjoying attention and will rub against your legs to show affection. We know that Amber would flourish in a home with someone to shower her with the love and attention she craves and deserves.  She has been a very patient girl, waiting for the right compassionate human(s). It’s our mission that we find Amber the perfect home where all this can happen! We are currently looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt situation for Amber. She should do fine with docile, friendly cats as well.

Becoming a foster means all of the joy without a long-term commitment, all while making an important contribution to the effort to save cats' lives.  C.A.T.S. will supply the food, litter and any necessary medical treatment while you provide the love and dedication!

Will you open your heart and your home to Amber?

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step in our process is to fill out our online application at our website, www.care4strays.org. Once received, it will be reviewed by one of our trained volunteers. If approved, we'll be in touch to arrange a "meet and greet" with the animal. All of our cats/dogs are in private foster homes.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Our animals are given wonderful care in private foster homes. In order to meet them, we require a completed application, which you can find at our website, www.care4strays.org.

Also, please check our website for adoption events.

More about this rescue

Since our founding in 1995 by Lynn Cancro, Caring About The Strays (C.A.T.S.), Inc. has worked to find “forever homes” for abandoned, unwanted, neglected, or abused companion animals.

All the animals in our care are in foster homes, which helps socialize the cat or dog and allows us to identify the best type of home for each animal to ensure a successful adoption. We also work to reduce the overpopulation of feral cats with our Trap-Neuter-Release program. In addition, our team also strives to educate the public about the importance of spaying or neutering their pets to decrease the number of unwanted pets.

C.A.T.S. is not a shelter in the traditional sense; we rely on private foster homes to house the many unwanted animals in our care.

Our Resale Shop (80 Kinderkamack Road in Westwood, NJ) helps fund our efforts. Please consider donating to our Resale Shop. Donations of brand-new and gently-used items are needed year-round and can be donated during shop hours Monday – Saturday 10:00 – 5:00.
