COURTESY POST - Contact info is at the bottom of the bio
We’d like to introduce Hunter, who is looking for his very own forever family. Hunter is an approximately 10 year old red merle Australian Shepherd and he’s currently living in the Dallas, TX area. He was owner surrendered in the summer of 2022 and has been living with his current foster family for almost nine months. During that time, we’ve come to know quite a bit about him and would like to share that in hopes that we can help him find his people.
Like most Aussies, Hunter has lots of charm and quirkiness that make him quite special. He quickly picks up on the routines of the household and becomes very animated at meal times and for treats. He enjoys being around his humans and sharing a bite of crust from your toast or helping partake in a bowl of popcorn.
Hunter can be very shy and cautious of new people and new surroundings, but once you’ve earned his trust he will gently approach for pets and attention. He has that very familiar Aussie head tilt and butt wiggle that he loves to do when his name is called happily and sweetly. Hunter has a cleft lip and palate, which does not seem to affect him in any negative manner regarding eating or drinking - we think it adds to his charm and character.
Hunter does enjoy the safety of a kennel and can be found in there relaxing and sleeping often. He likes to play with toys on his own and tends to accumulate them one by one so he can have them all to himself in his kennel. He currently lives with two other dogs and would do well as either an only dog or with other dogs who do not want to be too dominant. While he does try to engage in play with other dogs occasionally, he can quickly become unsure and will retreat from the situation.
A calmer home with older children would be recommended. He has not been cat tested since he’s been with us. While he is not the most experienced on a leash, he will walk beside you once you get going and especially does well with another dog beside him to model after.
Mostly, Hunter is just looking for a home where he will be welcomed for who he is and with people who will be patient and let him settle in to his new routine. He definitely deserves his happily ever after!
