Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This is Chance, an active 5 year old Black Tri- Australian Shepherd with gorgeous blue eyes. Chance was an owner surrender due to a bite involving a young child. Candy and an Easter basket were involved so we are not sure of the nature of the bite, but to be safe, Chance can not be adopted to a family with a child under 12 or to a family intending to have more children.
Chance is on the smaller side, weighing in at 35-40 lbs. Moderately active, he loves going on walks and riding in the car. Chance does okay with other dogs, but does not know how to initiate play. His favorite technique is to prod the other dogs with his nose and bark at them. Not all dogs like this… but, if he does get them to play, he interacts appropriately.
There are some minor issues with resource guarding as well, mostly around treats and food. If you drop something while cooking, Chance believes that the morsel on the floor is his alone.
Typical of Aussies, Chance has picked his number one person in the household – in this case, his foster dad and “Food Guy”. Chance is always somewhere close, usually under his chair or by his feet. He is crate trained and house trained, and eats his meals in his crate. Chance has decent leash manners and has done exceptionally well off leash also. He appears to have little or no prey drive as he never gives the bunnies that come on the property a second look. Cats are an unknown, but with careful introduction, may be acceptable.
Chance will do great as an only dog to an active family, but will thrive also with another dog or two in the family as long as his resource guarding is managed and his play initiation is monitored. Keep him active and stimulate his brain with new tricks to learn and he will be your best buddy forever. He is not fearful of strangers and is great company at a Brew Pub or something similar where his good looks attract attention and the extra pets are always appreciated.
He is currently fostered in Tucson, AZ. If Chance sounds perfect for you, please fill out our application:
