My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chiquita is a female Chihuahua mix. Approx. 10 years old. She weighs 13 lbs.

Chiquita’s owner sadly passed away. She cared for all 38 of her dogs. Unfortunately her previous owner’s family were unable to care for Chiquita and the rest of the dogs she left behind. They were in terrible conditions and malnourished. Chiquita was rescued by Consuelo (FHSTJ’s lead rescuer) along with another 10 dogs (The rest were taken by a different rescuer in Tijuana).

Chiquita would be happy if she could find a loving and calm home to spend her final years.

Additional adoption info

We take great care in being sure that each adoption is a good fit for both the animal and the adopter. Once the adoption is finalized, after a 1 week trial period, we follow up with the adopter (sometimes more time is needed) making sure that the pet is well adjusted to its surroundings and its new owner.
We also ask that they take the adopted pet to their Vet to have the pet checked out even though we have done so prior to the adoption.

Go meet their pets

We have adoption events almost every weekend. Our Adoption events take place at Petco & Petsmart, our adoption partners. We also participate in other adoption events in the city of San Diego, CA, i.e., the Doggy Street Festival (at Liberty Station) as well as all the events sponsored by the Animals Support Foundation, that take place in Grossmont, San Diego.

More about this rescue

The greater Tijuana area of 3 million people and thousands of abandoned street animals needs more individuals doing rescues and organizing neighborhood spay events. FHSTJ Does not run a shelter. Instead, it supports grass roots organizations and individual rescuers. This allows us to serve many more animals at any given time, due to this unique system of support. This is accomplished by giving financial support to rescuers and groups which could not function without the generosity of FHSTJ donors.
In summary, we support street rescues, mass spay and neuter clinics, pet owners with extremely limited resources needing veterinary care for their animals as well as public education programs, adoption programs for rescuers, and a pet food distribution program for animals in need.
