My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Don't tell the other pups, but 6-yr-old Bonnie is a volunteer and staff favorite! She adores children, is house trained, and is ready to cuddle her entire 63 pound body with you on the couch every night. Bonnie would do best in a home without other dogs. She's good with other dogs outside after a proper slow intro, however she told us that she just prefers to get 100% of the attention at home and we totally get it! When she was first rescued, she didn't really understand toys or fetch. However, after some time in a wonderful foster home, she slowly started to love playing with her toys in her bed and playing some fetch in the hallway with her little pink tennis ball...only when she feels like it though. That's one thing we love about her – she'll let you know when she wants to play. If she's laying in bed and you want her to play fetch, she's like 'no way I'm chillin!' It is adorbs! Bonnie is also the perfect mix of rest and play. She'll go on a nice, long walk or hike with you no problem and then she'll sleep next to you all day until you're ready to go out again. Seriously, don't miss out on this well-behaved, loving, amazing girl! She's a gem.

'My sweet Bon Bon! Bonnie is a dream, and I miss her everyday that she's not at the Red Dog House! I had to fight the other volunteers to spend extra time loving her! She loves to be pet, to cuddle, and to get her belly rubbed. Bonnie is one of the most perfect dogs that I've ever met! She's be great as a family's only dog, but she'd bloom anywhere!' -Kathie, volunteer at the Red Dog HouseNovember 4, 2024, 8:32 pm

Additional adoption info

All of our animals come fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered (if old enough), and microchipped. Puppies and kittens will be spayed/neutered and have all shots when they are old enough. There is an Adoption application, a quick phone interview to make sure it is a good fit, a meet and greet with the dog, then a home check, and an adoption contract. We ask for a $400 donation for adult dogs, and $500 for puppies at the time of adoption so that we can save other dogs from the shelter. More about this rescue

Dogs are man's best friend, but it is not always the other way around. The Little Red Dog was founded in memory of a little red American Pit Bull Terrier who did not make it. If you are familiar with the Michael Vick dog fighting case chronicled in The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. The Little Red Dog was brutally beaten to death by Vick and his cronies because she didn't want to fight.

The Little Red Dog rescues dogs; red, blue, tan, white, brown, black and all colors in between. We do not discriminate against ANY breed; that's because we are a real rescue, and we will help as many animals as we can. Our primary goal is to get them into loving homes. Our hope that some day all of them make it, but most of all, we will never forget the Little Red Dog and many others who did not.
