My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Otis! Otis is a 3 year old male French Bulldog. After a few years of love and care in his current home and after being in and out of shelters his first two years of life before that, Otis is unfortunately again in search of a new forever home. His current owner’s career involves a significant amount of travel and unfortunately cannot care for Otis the way he needs and is heartbroken to have to part ways. Otis is extremely athletic and loves to play, chase balls, flirt poles, and tugs. Otis has been through training before and is house trained, crate trained, e-collar trained, working through muzzle training and knows how to walk on leash. Otis’s current commands include his name, house, come, sit, down, place, leave it. His current trainer is happy to facilitate a safe transition to a new home free of charge as well as ongoing training. Otis would do well in a home with an experienced handler who has worked with dogs who need just a little extra help and boundaries and who can manage his triggers and struggles. He would do well with ideally just one person as his primary caretaker and no other pets or children in the home. The things Otis struggles with include trusting new people, impulse control when he is uncomfortable, and resource guarding. All which have significantly improved but also why he would only do well with someone who has handled these behaviors before and can be conscious about not putting him in scenarios where he would respond inappropriately. Once Otis trusts you he is the sweetest dog who just wants to be pet and played with. Otherwise he is happy chewing a bone on his cot or sleeping in his crate. Please consider helping Otis out because even through his struggles he deserves a good loving home with someone who understands him and can help keep improving his behavior

More about this rescue

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing dogs from various Los Angeles shelters the day they are to be euthanized. Our goal is to help provide animals with a second chance to a happy life and to help reduce pet overpopulation through spay and neuter programs. Once rescued, we place our dogs into loving foster homes while they await adoption. We do not keep dogs in kennels. Placing the dogs in foster homes is the first step to rehabilitation, as it allows us to thoroughly evaluate a dog's demeanor and needs enabling us to make the perfect match of dog and permanent owner. We attribute our high rate of successful placement to our foster program. At Ace of Hearts, we do not discriminate against any breed, including those in the bully breed family. Additionally, Ace of Hearts is dedicated to educating the public on how to be responsible pet owners and on the importance of spaying and neutering. We believe the real solution to pet overpopulation is through spaying and neutering pets.
