My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Ares!

Smart Loving Charming Courageous

Ares is one half of an extraordinary pair of Great Danes who embody resilience, charm, and boundless love. Ares and his sister, Luna, are ready to embark on a new chapter of their lives with you.

This magnificent, white Great Dane has a heart as big as his towering stature. Despite facing life with limited vision and the absence of sound, he has adjusted to life in his foster home well with additional support from his sister. This gentle giant is patiently waiting to shower his forever family with affection.

His disability is no obstacle to his spirit or his potential to be a cherished family member. In fact, it's his unique qualities that make him even more endearing. What truly sets this remarkable Great Dane apart is his incredible bond with his sister. Their connection is nothing short of beautiful. These two have a special language of their own, and they lean on each other for support and companionship. Adopting them together will ensure that they continue to thrive in a loving and nurturing home.

They both love to be around their people and soak up the attention. While they aren't that into playing with toys, they do love going for walks and car rides!

These two gentle giants can be the perfect addition to your family and can do well in a household with cats and older children. Both dogs are housebroken, crate-trained, and walk well on a leash. Their foster family has also noted they do well during car rides. A physical fence and minimal steps are required due to them having difficulty with hearing and vision. Neither dog has any medical/health concerns, but Ares occasionally requires an ointment for his eye.

Are you ready to open your heart and home to this remarkable pair of siblings? If so, please reach out to us by completing one of the following steps.

1. If you have already completed the application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Ares & Luna’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about them.

2. If you are not yet an approved adopter through UMGDR, you must complete our application process before you can be considered to adopt a dog through our rescue. Please visit https://www.thegreatdanerescue.com/adoption-application to complete an application and submit your $25 application fee to begin the process.

This awesome duo is currently located in Presque Isle, WI. Since Ares and Luna need to be adopted together, the combined adoption fee is $430.10.

More about this rescue

Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue was started in 2008 by a group of Dane lovers who desire to help Danes in need. The rescue is made up of all volunteers who lovingly give of their time and money to help these wonderful dogs. Volunteers include people from every walk of life, all with one thing in common, love of Great Danes.

Each animal coming to the rescue is temperament tested, given a physical, vaccinated, wormed, checked for heartworm and tick borne illnesses and treated as needed. All dogs are sterilized before being re homed. The dog is then placed in a foster home to wait for someone to love it forever.
