My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Spotlight on Sweetie: The Perfect Couch Companion with a Heart of Gold

Introducing Sweetie, our delightful and affectionate pup who truly lives up to her name! Sweetie joined us through a transfer from another shelter that needed our help, and now she`s on the lookout for a forever family who will appreciate her calm and loving nature.

Sweetie is the epitome of laid-back bliss. Her favorite activities involve snuggling up on the couch and enjoying quiet moments with her humans. With her gentle demeanor and affectionate heart, she’s sure to make any home a little cozier and a lot warmer.

While Sweetie is a perfect companion for anyone seeking a loving and relaxed dog, she does have one special request: she’d like to be the only pet in the home. Sweetie prefers a peaceful environment where she can soak up all the attention and love, making her the ideal choice for a household without other cats or dogs.

If you’re searching for a sweet, mellow pup who will bring endless affection and joy to your life, Sweetie is ready to fill your home with love. Her dream is to find a family who will cherish her as much as she will cherish them. Could you be the perfect match for this sweet girl? Come meet Sweetie and discover how her gentle presence can make your home even more special.

More about this shelter

Northshore Humane Society is one of Louisiana's largest 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organizations. Since 1953, we have been serving the neglected and abandoned animals of the Northshore region. We are an independent, non-governmental rescue that offers veterinary care, fostering, adoption, and more. We rely solely on the support of caring people like you to fund our programs and services which profoundly benefit the animals of our community. Thank you for all of your support!

Our Mission:
To be the premier organization dedicated to enhancing and saving the lives of pets in the Northshore region through community engagements, adoption, spay and neuter programs, and sheltering.

Our Vision:
To lay the foundation for a no-kill nation. To learn more about a no-kill nation, we suggest visiting www.nokilladvocacycenter.org.

What We Do:
Adoptions: Each year, we rescue, care for and find loving homes for homeless animals in our community.

Veterinary Care:
Our community clinic provides excellent veterinary care to both our rescue pets and to beloved family pets. All funds raised through our clinic directly impact the care of the homeless animals of our rescue.

Foster:
Our foster families open their homes to homeless animals who are too young, sick or scared to be immediately adopted.

Volunteer:
Hundreds of volunteers take on a variety of tasks to help care for and promote our animals, assist administration, and represent NHS at community events, allowing more time for our staff to do their jobs efficiently.

Low-Cost Pet Health:
Through grant and corporate partners, we are able to provide a variety of low-cost pet care to people in need. These include low-cost spay/neuter opportunities, microchipping, vaccinations and more!
