My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there, my name is Melody. My foster family says that once I feel safe with you I`m a sweet, adorable, loyal, and kind dog. I prefer to keep my distance with stangers and surround myself with only people I trust. I can be a bit timid and unsure about meeting new people, but with patience, treats, and squeaky toys, I am sure to come around. I`m my happiest with people who understand how to respect my boundaries, so I will need a home without children.

Some other things that I love are playing fetch and getting my belly rubbed. I am a high energy girl, but it`s nothing that a long game of fetch can`t work out of me. I am a fetch pro! I will bring my toy back to you when I`m ready for another throw. Squeaky toys, especially squeaky tennis balls, are the love of my life! By nature I`m a herding dog, so activities that get out this urge, like playing with a herding ball and mental enrichment, are crucial to keeping me happy. For the most part, I`m a homebody; I just like to lay close by you and chew on my toys or go play fetch in the backyard. I`m really good at shredding cloth toys though, so unless you want to pick up fluff all the time, you might want to avoid leaving me with anything that`s stuffed.

I`m still learning commands, but as long as you have food in your hand, I`m really good at sitting. While the crate isn`t my favorite place to be, I do know when I need to go into it, but I can get a bit wild if I`m left alone in it for too long. I`ve also done well being left alone not in a crate and didn`t get into anything that I wasn`t supposed to. Though I may have an accident here or there, I`ve been doing really well with my house training. I`m doing good with my leash training, and I get excited to go on walks with my people.

Additional adoption info

Adoption Process
We have an open adoption policy, so there is no application or interview process. We simply ask that you meet the pet in person before adoption. We have adoption specialists that will help you find the right pet for your family.

Adoption Center
The Adoption Center is located at 7500 N. Western Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. Our Adoption Center is a totally new concept in Oklahoma City where dogs have comfortable, expanded kennels and cats stay in “living rooms” with furniture and toys.

Pets by Appointment
Some amazing dogs get stressed out in a kennel environment like our Adoption Center, and much prefer staying at their foster home until they find their new family. If you see a dog on our website that says “E-Mail to Meet Me” that means that this furry friend is just a click away from getting a ride to the Adoption Center to meet you in person.

Adoption Fees
Adult dogs are $150 to adopt, puppies are $200 to adopt, adult cats are $75 to adopt and kittens are $95 to adopt. All of our pets are microchipped, spayed or neutered, treated with all age-appropriate vaccinations and flea, tick, and heartworm preventative prior to being cleared for adoption, so we put a lot of effort and monetary investment into each of our animals including a two-week quarantine period in a foster home. These adoption fees help cover the costs of our animals’ health and well-being!
