My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When we say Murphy is an “awesome dog”, we aren’t kidding . . . this beautiful, well-adjusted Siberian/German Shepherd mix has been with us since he was about to be euthanized at the tender age of 5 months . . . so he has grown up in a stable, loving foster home, and has been socialized to life with a family, in a house, and with other dogs, from his puppyhood on! Why hasn’t he found a home yet? We haven’t a clue – it’s must be because he has been waiting for you! Murphy, basically a “yearling” at this point, is just a GREAT dog -- a happy, issue-free, INCREDIBLY friendly and loveable boy who simply knows no strangers, whether you be canine or human! (We are recommending against placement with cats at this time merely because his idea of “play”, though he doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body, is a little more exhuberant than that which is appreciated by most felines ). At a recent gathering with other Northern Lights dogs, Murphy was excellent with dogs ranging from a big male Malamute all the way through shy adult females and a playful little female pup. He just wants to be buddies! Murphy adores kids, as evidenced by the one photo shown here (and we URGE you to click on the “Webshots” link, above, to see many, many more). He’d love nothing more than to have one of more kids to “call his own”. It is not at all surprising that he has so much to offer. The mix of Siberian Husky and German Shepherd is a great combination of breeds, as you can expect the "best of both worlds". We've had great experiences with this mix ourselves, and find many adopters actually seeking a Shepherd/Husky mix. This is because the independent spirit and joyful nature of the Siberian are so wonderfully balanced by the loyalty, desire to please and steadfastness of the German Shepherd. And, best of all, both breeds are highly intelligent - so you won't just get a dog with a great personality and a bright, sunny disposition – you will also get a dog with plenty of brain power! Murphy’s foster dad described him this way: “Murphy is a smart guy who does understand basic commands like “sit”, “stay”, “no” and “come”. “Stay” is still a work in progress, as he is curious by nature and loves to see what you're doing or be by your side. He adores having his belly rubbed and will flop down on the floor at your feet begging for just that! He also loves plush toys – we think he may be a future doctor as he especially enjoys taking the squeaker out and then removing the stuffing . Murphy is fine around smaller animals and wants to play with them. He's okay around cats as long as you let him know the cat is not a squeaky toy . . . I wouldn’t trust him with them unsupervised, though, as he does show signs of typical Sibe prey drive, and will stalk the birds in our backyard, trying to catch them. He has caught a couple of field mice and shrews – he’s a better hunter of “small and furry/small and feathered” than our cat! He loves to explore and we don't trust him outside with out some kind of restraint like a fenced yard, leash or leader. He sleeps with us in our bedroom at night with the others and during the day has free roam of the house if someone is home. He is only put in his crate when we're going out for long periods of time. All in all Murphy is a great dog who thrives on attention and love.” As you can see, Murph is a handsome, solidly built boy with a soft, plush “strawberry blond” coat and melt-your-heart golden/amber eyes. He’s our “best kept secret” and now that the word is out, we urge you to contact us right away for an application! We’re hoping it’s “his turn” at long last – he’s got a lifetime of love and devotion just waiting for you!
