My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our wonderful friend, Hypatia, is still looking for her home. We thought we’d mention some of the characteristics that would make her a great addition to someone’s family.

*Hypatia is a bit of a couch potato. She is no stranger to the zoomies but she likes to spend most of her time relaxing on cozy furniture, either independently or (preferably) with a favorite human.

*Hypatia moonlights as a blanket. She adores cuddling and being close to the people she loves. This will come in handy as the temperatures drop.

*Hypatia is housetrained. She does her business as soon as she gets outside. You won’t need to set up any bells or whistles to get this girl to go potty outside.

*Hypatia is independent. She loves her people but is also happy to spend long periods by herself napping or chewing on a favorite toy. She doesn't need a super active family to maintain her energy level. Hypatia would be fine with a busy owner or family that can’t always be home with her.

*Hypatia is entertaining and a lot of fun. See the picture of Hypatia and her blue pool for just one example. She's a goofball, so sit back and watch.

*Hypatia loves her people. This dog has more friends than most people we've met. Everyone who knows Hypatia loves her. Hypatia has never had a person or family of her own to spoil her. We cannot imagine how much love she will give to the person or family who brings her into their home and gives her the love and stability she has always deserved.

Please consider welcoming Hypatia into your life through foster or adoption. If you can't do this, please share her far and wide. Hypatia tends to get overlooked because she is a pit mix, has white on her face so she looks older than she is, and because she needs to be an only dog. We need to expand the circle of people who know about her to help her find her family.

Hypatia is a 3.5-year-old cattle dog/pit mix available through The Pet Connection in Raytown, MO. Hypatia’s adoption fee will be covered by one of her many friends and she will come with a life starter kit from The Rosie Fund. Transportation can be provided to the right home. Hypatia will need to be an only pet but, after meeting Hypatia, you’ll know that she is the only pet you need.

More about this rescue

Since 1999, The Pet Connection has found homes for more than 7,000 animals and rehabilitated hundreds of dogs and cats with aggression, fear and anxiety issues. We have spayed or neutered over 8,000 dogs and cats in our own free and low-cost clinics since 2002 and assisted another 5,800 pets with low-cost services since 2006. The Pet Connection was founded in 1999 in Mission, Kansas, to offer shelter for homeless pets, adoptions and training. We were one of the first no-kill advocacy groups in the Kansas City metro area and the first cage-free facility in Johnson County to offer education about available spay and neuter programs. In 2006, The Pet Connection relocated to a facility in Mission that enabled all dogs and cats to have their own rooms while awaiting adoptive homes or being rehabilitated due to behaviors that hindered adoption prospects. The Pet Connection currently focuses on pet adoptions, dog and cat training, aggressive dog rehabilitation, and classes for pet owners. We were the first in this area to offer free training/behavior classes to adopters.

The Pet Connection trainers and behavior members use a team approach in order to implement the ideas that have the highest success rate. Our five behavioral trainers working out of the Kansas City metro have a variety of backgrounds applicable to dog training and behavior. The Pet Connection implements positive reinforcement training methods, where the dog learns to face the trigger, but to respond appropriately. Read about our experienced trainers under “Meet the Team" on our website at www.thepetconnection.net.

The Pet Connection has always been committed to being no-kill advocates. We have been involved in many projects with local and national organizations to help Kansas City progress in how homeless pets are cared for and to improve the services that they receive. Our organization is a 501c3 charity in the state of Kansas, and has always provided thousands of dollars worth of supplies, including cat litter, food, toys, beds and dog houses, to other rescues and shelters.
