Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Jasper, a sweet and very friendly young (3 y/o on 3/17/2023) male purebred lemon Dalmatian!
Jasper is a goofy and wiggly, medium sized lovebug who just wants to be with his people at all times! He hasn't met a stranger - male, female, child, fellow dog or cat! While Jasper is housetrained, he's still learning his household manners and polishing off some obedience training at this time. We are currently working on our basic commands such as lay down and stay, although we've mastered sit and shake assuming we're being bribed with a treat! Jasper is a playful, very loyal velcro dog; wherever you sit, he will end up next to you - if he's not already trying to lay on top of you! He has a big personality and would definitely be crowned "most dramatic" at our rescue. Although he hasn't quite figured out dog toys at this time, he's all about going on adventures together and getting attention, being pet, kissed on and cuddled up with. He travels extremely well in the car and would do great with an active adopter/family!
Jasper was lovingly surrendered by his previous owner due to no fault of his own. The previous owner did believe that at one point, Jasper potentially killed a chicken. While we have not seen ANY prey drive or even any hints of aggression, we would like to ensure he is not placed in a home with farm animals just to be overly cautious and safe. Our gut is telling us that we don't have the full story and either the chicken had died on its own and Jasper was playing with it or something else - but because we were not there we cannot confirm nor deny the incident.
Jasper is a purebred Dalmatian - meaning, he has a very high energy level. Dalmatians are commonly known for needing to be exercised and mentally stimulated daily! A bored Dalmatian will usually be a destructive and unruly Dalmatian. This breed will shed twice a year, January through June and July through December (did you catch that?). Dalmatians are big time shedders! We're talking those small hairs that weave in between fabric and never come out. If you prefer a fur free home, this breed is not for you.
Dalmatians are also known for being HUA (High Uric Acid) unless specifically bred with LUA (Low Uric Acid) genes. This means that they cannot process purines and will need specialized diets. There is plenty of information online for low purine food options as this condition is similar in dietary restrictions for a human who has gout disease. Low purine options include turkey, chicken and salmon based foods. Pork, venison and other red meat options are off the menu.
"Standard" dog kibbles which contain any secreting organs (liver, kidneys, gizzards, meat byproducts, meat meals, etc) should NOT be fed to this breed if they are HUA. Feeding these dog foods would put our pups at risk for HUU (Hyperuricosuria), bladder crystallization, and/or bladder stones which could even lead to death.
We recommend feeding either a low purine raw or balanced fresh food diet, or utilizing dehydrated mixes from The Honest Kitchen (made with human grade low purine ingredients) to ensure they do not have any issues during their lifetime. If you cannot afford to feed these types of dog foods, please do not submit an application. Dalmatians are an expensive breed to properly care for and any future adopter/owner should be prepared for the expenses.
Although we do not know if Jasper is HUA or LUA (you can find out through an Embark Genetic Health Test), we like to err on the side of caution and be preventative so we treat him as a HUA Dalmatian until proven otherwise.
**Jasper does not have a history of forming stones**

The Maddux Movement is a non-profit foster based rescue located in Atlanta, GA. Our mission is to rescue and rehome animals that are in abusive, neglectful or endangering situations, which includes traditional or open admission shelters, strays, owner surrenders and puppy mills. Adoptions are not based on a first come first serve basis. The individual(s) selected will be chosen by what is best for each animal. Although our rescue is breed focused, we are not a breed restrictive rescue.
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (including leptospirosis and canine influenza).
Additionally, each adopted dog will be sent home with a new Fi Series 2 GPS Tracker Smart Dog Collar with a 1 year GPS subscription, a copy of The Forever Dog by Rodney Habib and Dr. Karen Becker and a Dalmatian dog blanket.
