My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Charger came to ARF on 1/5/23 at about 9 months old (now 11 months) and about 20 pounds.  He showed up at an unoccupied house in the country into which a family was preparing to move.  When Charger didn't leave, he was put inside the home temporarily so he'd be out of extreme cold.  He had to be moved before the family came because their dogs would never have accepted him.  Charger is a pretty chestnut color with pretty dark eyes and waves in the hair on his lower back! His DNA test shows he is mainly rat terrier and beagle. ARF first put him into boarding, where the staff loved him. He was moved into a foster home just prior to his neuter on 2/2/23. He has received both training and vet care during this time.  At his vet visit of 1/12/23, Charger tested positive for hook worms and for lymes, so he has been treated for both. At the same visit, he received bordatella, rabies vaccine, and Nexgard, which has been kept up-to-date. His first DHPP shot was given on intake and second on 1/31/23. Charger isn't a lap dog, couch potato, and would not be a good apartment dog!  He is a busy, nose-to-the-ground, critter chasing, ground mole destroying, wiggling, barking at new sounds, always-on-a-mission dog! He will sit on a lap while chewing a bone, but he will drop you like a hot potato if there is a chance for an adventure! He doesn't care to be held and doesn't like to stand still to have his paws wiped when coming inside, but he will settle quietly in his crate. He needs an active family or a family with another active, playful dog to help with his energy and enthusiasm.  He loves to play chase with other dogs, and he can fly like the wind!  A slow introduction to dogs, especially bigger ones, is a plus so they don't scare him. He's very smart and always happy and excited to start a new day.  His foster mom is working to help him not bound out of his crate or out of the door, etc. He has learned several commands and is house trained and loves toys! He greets people and says hello but is always a dog on a mission. A harness works better for him than a collar, but hold tight in case a critter crosses his path! He would surely enjoy a big fenced yard and people who could appreciate his zest for life as his forever family!
