If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website www.wiseanimalrescue.org/adoption-application!

*PLEASE READ BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH AN ADOPTION APPLICATION*

Due to factors beyond our control, transport costs for our Puppy Mill survivors are much higher than what we have been accustomed to - costs for health certificates and medical + transport for each dog with no allowances for shared crates. With these factors taken into account, as well as the care needs for all of the animals in our adoption program, we need to request a donation above our normal request. Depending which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a donation in the range of $450- $850 from each adopter. $250 of that donation will be used toward the cost of transport. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

- ONE application per household. We will only consider your family for one of our available puppies so please apply for only one.

Name: Simon

Breed:Dachshund

Age: 6 months

Gender: Male

Home Recommendation: Simon would love a home who can help build up his confidence with patience, training, and socialization to make him the perfect boy we know he can become! He would thrive having another dog in the home to help show him the ropes.

Personality: Simon is the ultimate love bug! He will cuddle with you all day long and uses his small size to curl up in your lap. He is mostly a couch potato but loves to play with toys. He particularly enjoys fuzzy, squeaky toys and rope toys. He will bond very closely with one person and never leave their side! Simon can be shy at first greeting but he will eventually come out of shell to show you what a mush he really is. The best way to gain his trust is through love, patience, and using his favorite snacks chicken and cheese!

Kids: Since Simon can be skittish at times, kids above the age of 13

Dogs: Yes! He loves to play with other dogs.

Cats: Unknown

Crate Trained: Working on it!

House Trained: Working on it!

Training: Simon is working on puppy manners and basic obedience. He is learning how to walk on a leash and currently pulls most of the way, but he is making progress day by day! He can be nervous around new people and takes time to come out of his shell, so he will need continued training to help work on making him less nervous with new people and places.

Why did they come to WISE? Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Simon were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
