My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

6-2023: Worf is doing incredibly well in foster care-- he such an easy dog, cage and house trained. Most of his hair has grown back and he is even much more handsome now. Technically he is called a Borderador and you can see both breeds in his good looks and personality. Both Border Collies and Labradors have ball drive and you can also see Worf had that BC stalking behavior. He is a little chubby and would benefit from daily dog walks and romps at the local dog park. He was really attentive to his foster mom when I took his new photos so he should bond very well with his new family. It is often difficult to find adopters for black dogs, but look how stunning this dog is!! We are hopeful there is a perfect family in the Chicago area looking for a wonderful new family pet.

5-2023: When Worf came into our program, his blood work was decent and his first Tick Serology was negative. We we see so much tick borne disease in the Southern Illinois dogs that I always need to retest after we get them started on at least doxycycline. Follow up testing does show Rocky Mountain spotted fever and his titer went from 0 to @1:1600. He is producing antibodies and his health will need to be monitored the rest of his life. Ideally we need an adopter in the Chicago area with an annual visit to our vet in Burbank as Dr. Rimkunas is very familiar with treating dogs with tick borne disease.

2-27-2023: When I saw Worf pictures from an email from the Lawrenceville shelter, I knew he had to be an IBR dog. After several posts on IBR Facebook, I found a sponsor for his care and I also finally found a foster. He arrived in IBRland on 2-26 after a wonderful transport with volunteers drivers. His skin infection was most likely from a flea infestation called flea dermatitis and from him chewing on himself. Mark had applied Frontline which killed the bugs. His skin wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, but his temp foster in southern Illinois did do a medicated shampoo on 2-24. His skin is dry but it doesn't look infected. on 2-27, I gave him a Head & Shoulders- shampoo that helps dry skin and has almond and coconut oil to help with the dryness. I worked most of the dry skin off and his skin looks really good. Until all hair grows back, he is at risk for sun burn so he'll need some sunscreen for a month or too outside.

WHAT A NICE DOG!!! Worf was confiscated from his neglectful home- but he must have been loved at one time. He is very friendly, and very toy motivated. He knows sit, down and gives paw. Best guess is he is a Lab/ Border Collie mix and both these breeds love to please. He is cage and house trained and cat safe and very friendly with other dogs. Once his hair grows back-- he is going to be gorgeous.
