Here's what the humans have to say about me:
I am a happy girl named Scout, my tail never stops wagging and there’s always a smile on my face! I am a Basset mix, about 6 years old, and active for my age. I came to BROOD after my owner took a job that involved lots of travel and they wouldn’t be home as much to care for me.
I am house-trained and there’s no need to crate me during the day. As long as I have some toys to keep me occupied and lots of exercise breaks, I’m very well-behaved. My favorite toys are small yellow tennis balls. I often greet my family with a toy in my mouth when they come home, hoping for a quick game of chasing the ball. I love going on walks several times a day and the occasional trips to the dog park. I’d be alright in a home without a fenced yard as long as I had enough exercise through neighborhood walks. I enjoy meeting new people, kids and dogs, I am very friendly. I even got along with the cats in my prior home.
I can be a little mischievous and have been known to hide the little bars of soap my foster family puts out for decorations. They look like toys to me! I am very food motivated, I love any kind of treat, and will dance excitedly on my back legs like a bear whenever food is involved! I love snuggling with my family and am a great sleeper. I often beat them to bed at night and wiggle down deep under the covers. I make a cozy heating pad to keep your toes toasty! I will sleep quietly all night long and be ready for breakfast and a walk first thing in the morning.
I have really made lots of progress with my foster family since I came to live with them. I was barking at every dog I saw, heard or even smelled. I just was super excited to meet them and wanting to play. I guess it is how I say “Hi!” but it can be a little much. I’m much better at socializing with dogs and people now, though it is a bit against my cheery nature to not bark in a friendly way.
I will make a great companion for any family, in any situation. Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $250.00.
**Only BROOD approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference.
The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records. The estimate on the dog’s age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of the initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the record. ***BROOD’s adoption fees are determined based on age of the dog. 02/19/2023
