Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Allow us to introduce you to Handsome Stetson.
As you can see, he is a ridiculously good-looking Australian Shepherd or perhaps an Australian Shepherd mix. Whatever his breed, this good boy is just as smart as he is handsome. He is potty trained, crate trained, and walks (fairly well) on a leash. He loves to ride in the car and will “load up” as soon as the door opens. Treat and attention motivated, Stetson knows to sit, shake, and down. He adores squeaky toys and likes to play fetch. He can also catch small, soft toys tossed his way. He doesn’t mind being brushed. Oh, and he gives kisses. At four years old, Stetson has calmed considerably from his puppyhood days and hasn’t shown any interest in chewing inappropriate items at his foster mom’s home.
Yes, Stetson is calmer than a six-month-old puppy, but he’s still a high-energy breed. Potential adopters should do their homework before considering an energetic, driven dog. Aussies are often described as “Velcro” dogs because they want to stay with their person. He will be your shadow. Like most Aussies, he can be reserved or watchful with strangers or in a new environment. However, he is not at all timid or shy. Herding dogs in general are sight sensitive, meaning they are acutely aware of movement. They will notice a black cat across the street on a dark night or a squirrel scampering up a tree. They will be distracted by children at play, joggers, and livestock, including sheep, ducks and cattle. These activities can excite their chase instinct. At this time, Stetson doesn’t respect boundaries and cannot be trusted off-leash. Stetson will require a calm, assertive leader dedicated to continuing his training.
An adopter with Australian Shepherd or other herding dog experience would be ideal. A securely fenced yard is a must!
He loves people, including little people but he’s a big, strong boy! Kids over ten would be great. Unfortunately, Stetson is picky about his four-legged friends. He should be introduced to other dogs in a safe, controlled environment. We don’t know his story since Stetson was found as a stray and never reclaimed. But we do know he will bond tightly with his person and give back ten times what his adopter puts into him. His foster thinks Stetson is almost perfect and deserves only the best. This handsome boy would do best as an only dog—at least for now.
Stetson is being fostered in Tyler, Texas. He is four years old and weighs about 72 lbs. The vet says his ideal weight is about 60 lb. He is neutered, micro-chipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. He is HW-negative and is on monthly heartworm prevention.
If you’ve fallen in love with Handsome Stetson and think you may be able to provide the home he deserves, fill out an application at www.milliesmutts.com for a chance to meet this stunning boy.
Please note that all our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only.
