Here's what the humans have to say about me:
About Angus: He a purebred Australian Shepherd from a breeder. He is a one year-old male, about 45 pounds. He is a pretty boy! His fur is very glossy and he has a foxy face with big blue eyes.
Health: Angus is a healthy boy! He has been neutered and is up to date on his vetting.
Great Things about Angus: He LOVES to go on walks, has nice leash manners, and does not react to other people or dogs. Angus also LOVES other dogs! He zooms around the yard with a dog friend and play wrestles. He does not bother the cat. He sleeps quietly through the night in his crate or dog bed.
Angus is potty-trained and goes right away in the yard or on a walk. He does not bark much. He is not destructive and has not shown separation anxiety. He does not resource guard and takes treats gently. He is medium-energy and settles down in the house after his walk or yard time. Angus rides quietly in the car. He is smart and learns fast.
The Challenge with Angus: He is VERY timid and anxious that people will mistreat him. His foster mom says it is like living with a deer. He startles easily and flees. As a result, it is a challenge to get him back in the house from the yard. Having a routine helps. Also, it is a challenge to put his leash on. He fears being “caught” and is sensitive about having his collar grabbed. One time he panicked and bit a teenager on the hand who grabbed his collar as he was trotting by. We are careful not to surprise Angus. We tell him what is about to happen (“leash, walk”), and move slowly. Angus has improved a great deal in his foster home. We believe he will continue to grow in trusting people but it will take time, and maybe medication would help too.
A surprising thing about Angus is that once he is on his leash he relaxes and enjoys being touched and held by his people and hanging out with visitors.
Perfect Family for Angus: Angus needs a fenced-in yard to zoom in. He would love a doggie playmate. Cats are ok. He should not go to a home with children as erratic movements could cause him to react. He would do best with experienced dog owners who are very patient and not gone for long stretches.
