Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Energetic, super-friendly, playful - Gyoza is just a barrel of fun! He loves everybody, especially kids. This boy would love to become part of your active family, and will enthusiastically share your adventures!
HISTORY
The Yummipups were dumped in Eastern Washington in January and early February. They were hungry, scared and stressed when we took them in. Teaching them to trust and building their confidence took a while, but they got there at last and now they're ready to continue their journey with their forever families.
Their breed mix is based on our best guess, and probably several different sires were involved in making this litter. They are probably part Heeler, and the rest of the mix may include Terrier and/or Border Collie.
Gyoza is in a foster home in Kennewick, Eastern Washington.
SOCIALIZATION
Despite the difficult start to his life, Gyoza is a happy-go-lucky, friendly boy who just wants to be loved and have fun. Thanks to his months in his foster home he is well socialized to all humans, from young children on up - although he may be too strong and clumsy for very young children and others who are unsteady on their feet.
He shares his foster home with three other dogs, including one of his litter mates. He loves to play with all of them! We have found that all the dogs in this litter need a canine big brother or sister to show them the ropes, so Gyoza is looking for a family that includes a calm, friendly, confident dog of compatible size who is young enough to play with him but mature enough to put him in his place when necessary.
There are cats in his foster home, and although Gyoza isn't always as respectful as he should be, and would probably chase if he had a chance, given a careful introduction and supervision he could probably learn to share a home with a very confident, dog-savvy cat.
TEMPERAMENT AND BEHAVIOR
Although he looks like a mix of herding breed and terrier, Gyoza is relatively laid back, with moderate energy level. He would love to join an active family that enjoys walks, hikes and other adventures, and can offer him a yard big enough to run zoomies - but provided he gets a daily workout and plenty of loving, he'll be happy to kick back and keep you company when you're working at your desk or taking time out to read or watch TV. And he's an affectionate pup; if you're in the mood for a snuggle he'll happily oblige.
He loves toys, especially chews and balls, and he LOVES to play! Tug, tag, fetch - you name it, Gyoza is up for it. And he loves him some zoomies, so he's hoping his forever home will have a nice big yard!
Gyoza is alert and will let you know if strangers approach your home. are near. But when out for a walk in a public place like a park he is non-reactive. He's interested in other dogs he sees and accepts friendly greetings from humans.
It's important to remember that in some ways Gyoza is still very much a puppy. He will sometimes chew things that are left lying around, he can't be left unsupervised indoors, and he may dig in the garden. He's learning to be a Good Boi, but he's a work in progress!
Also, although Gyoza loves adventures, he does not love the car! Longer trips make him queasy. We expect he'll outgrow this, given time and practice, but his new family should probably not plan to take him on any trips across America at least for a while.
TRAINING
His house manners are generally good. Gyoza is reliably potty trained, and is used to relieving himself outside. He is crate trained, and treats his crate as a safe place that he can retreat to on the rare time that he wants time out from his busy foster family.
Because of the amount of trauma the fosters have had to deal with in caring for the six pups in Gyoza's litter, there hasn't been time for much obedience training beyond basic leash work. However, Gyoza is now working intensively with a professional trainer. She is taking his socialization and confidence to a new level, reinforcing his manners, and also working on standard basic obedience commands. This boy is proving to be intelligent and eager to please!
PHYSICAL & HEALTH STATUS
Based on a vet's opinion of their probable age, we've assigned this litter 8/15/2022 as their birthday. Gyoza is one of the bigger in the litter, and we expect him to weigh around 60 lbs when full grown.
He has been sterilized, fully vaccinated, treated for internal parasites, and microchipped, and examined by a vet. He appears to be in excellent health.
